Grinderman Announce First Single

Apparently "No Pussy Blues" was not the first single. It was just an introduction. Grinderman's first single release will be "Get It On." If you didn't catch the news last month about Nick Cave's new super group, here's a refresher course. Nick Cave's Mini Seeds have added some new members, now consisting of Nick Cave, Martyn Casey (The Triffids), Warren Ellis (Dirty Three, The Bad Seeds) and Jim Sclavunous (The Cramps), and the band Grinderman was born and spent summer in the studio.

"Get it On" will be released as a limited run 7", with a 1000 copies made available February 8th, 2007. The cover artwork will be an original Nick Cave creation and, rather than a b-side on the flipside, there will be an original etching by Nick Cave (again). The song will also be released digitally.

You can preview the first official single from Grinderman's self-titled debut this Christmas on their MySpace page. The album proper will be released March 5th but the only scheduled show is the ATP appearance this spring. The band spoke about "Get It On" on its website:

"This song is sung across an excoriating mandolin loop based on an obscure lute melody from the 11th century," suggests Ellis.

"It is a lament for the messianic rock n.. roll hero," says the virile and youthful Cave, "and begins, of course, with a statement of intent."

"Mice, dogs, baboons, hyenas", says Marty, Zen-like in the corner.

"Yeah, well, for me all the enemies of inspiration assume animal shapes," explains Cave, "they are all around us...and of course, inside us."

"From all the loops I originally sent you, this was the first one that really cried out to be used," mumbles Ellis, from the black hole in his shovel-shaped beard.

"Yeah, it grinds...it ground..." growls Sclavunos.

These are manly men making a manly record so get ready. It's gonna be like those retreats where business men go into the forest to get in touch with their inner bear or wolf, paint their faces, and howl at the moon, while sober! It's gonna be awesome. Man Camp.

I'm sure Warren Ellis is a great musician n' all, but when I first read that, I had assumed it was the critically acclaimed comic book writer.

in addition to his piano/organ duties.
That's so weird.... (yet awesome).
But incredibly weird. Its
hard to imagine really.
I can't wait.

Yes, it was awesome. Did you like Birthday Party? What the fuck did you expect Nick Cave to do. It's not like he hasn't done enough slow ballad story songs...
At least he's making it interesting again...
