Mortiis Share What's Brewing for New Album

Mortiis of Norway originally started as a creature of “urban legend” that crafted mysteriously ominous music. After a few years, Mortiis, the creature, slowly morphed into a band with Mortiis as the lead. Heavier and mightier than ever with their morbid, looming sound, Mortiis has announced that another album will soon be unleashed.

According to Mortiis' Myspace blog this is what’s brewing in the dungeon:

“TRENTON, N.J.—Mortiis has been busy writing and recording new material for a new album, to be released 2007.

"The music so far is pretty varied," said frontman and band namesake Mortiis. "There´s a bunch of really heavy stuff in there, probably the hardest stuff we´ve done so far, really guitar driven shit. Then there´s some really ambient sounding stuff, very drone-y and atmospheric, as well as some more electronic sounding songs too."

Mortiis notes that the songs are still in various stages of completion, leaving them open to many shifts and changes before the follow-up to "The Grudge" is recorded.

"It sounds really interesting right now," Mortiis said. "Some old vibes came back to us on some of the songs, some “Smell of Rain” vibes and some “Grudge” vibes and some new vibes. It´s all totally dysfunctional and fucked up in one way or another. Diseased or hurt minds never really heal up, I guess, and because of that, all in all it’s going to be a really hard, attacking kind of album with the moody stuff in between."

Some of the working titles are: "Zeitgeist," "Great Deceiver," "The Ugly Truth," "Looking Glass," "Doppelganger," "Sins of Mine," "Scolding the Burnt," "Live Forever," and "Road to Ruin."

Mortiis also recently completed remixes for Zombie Girl and Dope Stars´ upcoming releases.”

In other news, Mortiis' music will be featured on both soundtracks to Adam Mason's films Broken and Devil's Chair (Renegade Films).

I really liked Smell of Rain, and the ambient releases before that were nice for relaxing at home.
But I don't know...the newer stuff goes too far away from what I originally liked about Mortiis... Oh well. whatever

I love Smell of Rain, and the Grudge is pretty cool.. maybe because I like industrial robot . I understand Mortiis' desire to take himself and go through musical changes which he calls "Era's" but many fans, including myself, aren't very keen on him getting rid of his Troll/Goblin disguise. I hadn't realized that he used to be in Emperor, but when I first heard of his band I looked it up and saw his creature persona which drew me to give his music a try. Go back to the old look Mortiis!

I love Mortiis as well, but I really hate the goblin shit. Shock rock is so 1999. I'm glad he's over that phase tongue

Although, the make-up and theatrics were visually pleasing, I just get tired of the "ooh lookie me, I'm such an evil demon" thing that a lot of 'goth/industrial' bands do.
