Axl Rose's Guns N' Roses has cancelled their Portland, ME, show because Maine is crazy. They don't let performers drink on stage.
During a routine inspection to assess and plan pyrotechnics, the band was informed by state fire marshals that Maine state law prohibits performers from drinking on stage. The fire marshalls later learned that then state law prohibits Gn'R from performing.
On the Guns N' Roses website, Axl tells his side of the story:
"It was important for us to play there and it is a shame that what should have been a great night for all of us was not possible due to the actions of two people," said Rose, referring to the fire marshals.
"I agree with, and ultimately take responsibility for, the end decision not to jeopardize the safety of the fans, the crews, the bands and myself as a result of the methods of these particularly draconian authorities," Rose's statement said. "We hope to find another way to play for you in the future."
Maine is safe from a crappy, sober Gn'R show.
Maybe Axl is suggesting a referendum to the state law with that closing statement, ie get your shit together Maine, then we'll talk.
The Cumberland County Civic Center, where the event was to take place, has issued a statement informing ticket holders that refunds can be claimed at the point of purchase.

Maine, do you even know me?
