The Stooges Are In The Studio
Just the other day, I revisited The Stooges' Funhouse, and immediately I was overcome with the urge to shoot dope, drink whiskey, smash something and then piss on it. That's what the Stooges do to me, and to most people. It's good they made records that celebrate antisocial and reprehensible behavior so that the rest of us can just celebrate rather than participate.
With years of more antisocial and reprehensible behavior behind them, the Stooges have much more to document. Billboard is reporting that the Stooges have entered the studio with Steve Albini to record a new album. The lineup includes Iggy, the Asheton brothers and Mike Watt on bass. Iggy revealed to Billboard that very little has changed about the band members' distinct personalities. All the same passions and problems are there. But the problems are in a more muted style. I'm still the showoff in the group that gets all the attention. Everyone has their role. It's pretty much the way it was in high school. If you want to keep up with all the sonic hiinx, Watt is keeping a detailed journal about the recording experience here, which goes as far as to tell you where and what the guys are eating for each meal. As for the music, the journal reveals some song titles: "Trollin'," "Greedy Awful People," "Claustrophobia," "Mexican Guy", "End of Christianity." "O Solo Mio", "ATM" and "I'm Fried."
The as-of-yet untitled disc is due in 2007, and will be the Stooges' first studio album in thirty-four years.
