The Stooges Are In The Studio

Just the other day, I revisited The Stooges' Funhouse, and immediately I was overcome with the urge to shoot dope, drink whiskey, smash something and then piss on it. That's what the Stooges do to me, and to most people. It's good they made records that celebrate antisocial and reprehensible behavior so that the rest of us can just celebrate rather than participate.

With years of more antisocial and reprehensible behavior behind them, the Stooges have much more to document. Billboard is reporting that the Stooges have entered the studio with Steve Albini to record a new album. The lineup includes Iggy, the Asheton brothers and Mike Watt on bass. Iggy revealed to Billboard that very little has changed about the band members' distinct personalities.

All the same passions and problems are there. But the problems are in a more muted style. I'm still the showoff in the group that gets all the attention. Everyone has their role. It's pretty much the way it was in high school.

If you want to keep up with all the sonic hiinx, Watt is keeping a detailed journal about the recording experience here, which goes as far as to tell you where and what the guys are eating for each meal. As for the music, the journal reveals some song titles: "Trollin'," "Greedy Awful People," "Claustrophobia," "Mexican Guy", "End of Christianity." "O Solo Mio", "ATM" and "I'm Fried."

The as-of-yet untitled disc is due in 2007, and will be the Stooges' first studio album in thirty-four years.

Wonderful words of wisdom. Besides Steve Albini almost fucked up Nirvana's "in-uetro".

And since we are on the subject of bands reforming after 30 years, what is the deal, first the germs pop up with a nice child star as their front man, then the new york dolls put out their first album since they broke up in the 70's, reagan youth has come back into the underground with a new singer. This all makes me think of that Jello Biafra and the Melvins tune "those dumb punk kids'll buy anything." I mean Jello hit it right on the mark here with that song. Don't get me wrong I love punk rock and the Stooges and all, but I mean come on these guys haven't put out an album together in over 30's. I mean at least the stones and areosmith have been playing and touring all this time so everyone can watch them grow into shitty bands with age, but sadly i think the stooges are on a crash course with embarrassment. i just hope it is not too bad because i do love the Stooges.

Ugh. Why?

I suppose there's a miniscule chance that one song may be all right on this album but I'm going to go ahead and predict a bunch of throw away crap. NOthing fucks a legacy like recording new material 30 years later.

What's next, a tour with the stones?

Lil_Tuffy

I'd hope Iggy would have enough sense not to release something that blows.

A Stooges/Stones tour would be good for a documentary, two hours of Iggy taking the piss out of everyone. Occasionally John Lydon shows up long enough to make someone cry and then leaves before he asks to sing.

His weak material is certainly better than some top 40 'bands' smile

Not without Bowie producing, which even then's a bit shaky. Those song titles look horrible, I am not anticipating this album.
