Arctic Monkeys Start Work on New Album

Apparently, before the Arctic Monkeys had even won the Mercury award they had begun work on their new album. Rehearsals began last week for the quartet, and there's nothing but optimism right now.

Drummer Matt Helders spoke about the new album:

It’s shaping up good. We started messing about with the new songs last Friday in our rehearsal room. We can’t wait to get on with recording them. There’s no pressure on us, no worries about that. We just can’t wait to get going properly on them.

Alex Turner also talked about the band's progression:

We have learned a lot as musicians, but we haven’t started taking cocaine or owt like that. We could say ‘we’ve moved on’ but every band thinks that. There’s a few themes, but I need to organise it. The first album was very organised. By writing a few songs, I manage to piece the idea where everything runs together and it becomes one story.

What the fuck is owt? Maybe that's a typo.

As for the £20K the band pocketed for winning the Mercury, their website reveals that the band plans to donate the winnings to "a worthy charity which [they] would prefer to keep private." We all know what kinda charity that is.

...opposite of nowt as well.... as in "There's nowt as queer as folk", a Yorkshire saying...

Hence the take on that phrase for the popular series "Queer as folk"...

*dies of non-shit giving*

The most overrated band in the world at the moment. They won 4 awards at the NME (I.e Arctic Monkeys greatest buttlickers) awards, for what reasons I don't know.

NME cite them as having an amazing 'fresh' sound. They bloody well don't. They're like every other British rock band, but they just sound more irritating. The problem is, the way a lot of music media magazines bang on about them, you'd think a revolution was coming.

Their album is one of the fastest selling ever - outselling the Beatles Revolver album, something I don't understand at all since the album is hardly anything special.

Put simply: Don't like 'em.

ARCTIC MONKEES are shit, take a bunch of kids who rip off the strokes BADLY, and add in the fact that NME whores them as the greatest band in rock n roll and u got the monkeys, theyre prolly better at slingin theyre own shit then they are at writing riffs.

I made an effort to be objective and give them a chance. Their CD was on sale for a measly $8.99 the last time I was in the record store, so I figured what the hell and bought it to see what all the fuss was about. I listened to it in the car on the way down to my parents' house one weekend. I hit the skip button after about the first minute on track #1. I thought I had missed the skip button because track #2 sounded exactly the same and just as bad. I skipped on to track #3 and found it just as irritable. At this point I chucked it out the window.
So, there is an Arctic Monkeys CD somewhere in the bayou off of Louisana HWY 30 if any of you who like 'em want to go fishing for it.

I like them. I liked the last album, and I find it highly amusing that they've become one of the bands that it's not 'cool' to like because they're loved so much by the music media and general public. They don't rip off The Strokes, in fact I don't understand the comparison at all. I hate NME for hyping them to death, and it's had the usual effect of making 'cool' music people dislike the band in question.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new material, it will be interesting to see what effect (if any) all the madness of the past year has had on their output.

Oh, and 'owt'... kinda like saying 'oh, we haven't done any coke or anything like that'.
