Emily Haines Tracklist Announced

As mentioned, Emily Haines' solo debut is to be released later this month. Knives Don't Have Your Back is due September 26th on Last Gang Records. The Metric frontwoman discussed her side project with Billboard.

Haines:

I mostly wrote these when I'd come off the road with Metric. I played some of them for the [Metric] guys, but what emerged I liked. It was nice to finally acknowledge that I have more in me than I thought I did. [Knives is] a record about taking stock -- stopping for a minute. I'd say it was written in a time of a lot of activity, [when] what was my 'earlier life' ended and all those relationships ended.

Her backing band has been dubbed The Soft Skeleton, consisting of James Shaw from her very own Metric, frequent collaborator Evan Cranley from Broken Social Scene, Justin Peroff also from BSS, Scott Minor of Sparklehorse, and Chris Seligman from Stars.

In anticipation of the release, Emily has released a new track to preview at her myspace page. "Doctor Blind," like "Our Hell" streaming since July, is a slow piano number.

The tracklist for the new album is as follows:

"Our Hell"
"Doctor Blind"
"Crowd Surf Off a Cliff"
"Detective Daughter"
"The Lottery"
"The Maid Needs a Maid"
"Mostly Waving"
"Reading in Bed"
"Nothing and Nowhere"
"The Last Page"
"Winning"

I love her.

I was lucky enough to see (finally) Metric play last night and it was worth every dollar.

Yeah, I saw a Metric show here in Ottawa a few months gao, not really knowing too much about the band. She seemed like a really cool person though, and I really enjoyed the performance.

I saw Metric at Coachella. They ended with my favorite song (Hustle Rose), and they extended the outro for days. By the end, she had thrown one of her keyboards down onto the stage and was riding it like a horsie.

It was hot.

You should probably mention that she's doing a mini solo tour with her band:

Sep 12    The Gladstone Hotel - Toronto
Sep 18    Le National - Montreal
Sep 19    Joes Pub - NYC
Sep 21    The Viper Room (Presented by Under the Radar) - LA
Sep 22    Café du Nord - San Francisco

Thanks, blueshift. I mentioned that in my blurb about her in July, but it was worth repeating. I know for a fact the NYC show sold out.

If the rest of the record is as good as the preview tune "Doctor Blind", we're apparenty in for a treat. The last Metric album keeps calling you back to it.

I Saw metric at the beginning of the month at a tiny venue here in he UK, I was so close I was almost on the stage, which was also tiny. Quite Intense. Her voice is amazing.
I got tickets for 2 more dates when they return in November. Woo Hoo!
