Oasis Set to Release Greatest Hits Collection (Just Don't Tell Them That)

When I saw Oasis, they introduced themselves as "the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time". Everyone expected that kind of bravado from them, but about halfway through their set, I caught myself starting to believe it. They may have been total assholes, but in their prime Oasis were a sight to behold. Few bands will capture a time and place the way Oasis captured early to mid 90's Britpop. They're tied for first with The Stone Roses.

Needless to say, a lot of naysayers were satisfied when the band started to release some serious clunkers and were usurped by an enclave of bands that were slightly more stable, slightly more stylish and slightly more humble. Regardless. Oasis wrote a well-populated stable of great pop songs which will appear on a collection appropriately called Stop The Clocks. The 18-track double disc set will include the expected hits ("Supersonic", Wonderwall", etc.), NME reports that fans will also be treated to some B-sides.

Also featured is 'Acquiesce', the B-side to 'Some Might Say' that many consider to be one of the band's finest songs. 'Half A World Away' the B-side of 'Whatever' is also featured, which was used on the theme music for The Royle Family.

The band is also reluctant to call the set a "greatest hits" collection. Guys, it's a greatest hits collection. Your flame no longer burns as bight as it once did. Ask the Artctic Monkeys what it's like to be fellated by the press in 2006. Stop the Clocks is set for a November 20 release.

Definitely Maybe a Band With 'Greatest Hits': Oasis

I always thought Oasis sucked, with the possible exception of maybe 1 or 2 songs. Whilst they were shooting their mouths off, Blur were writing Britpop that was witty, catchy and creative. However, the press always backed Oasis purely for the fact that they were dicks. Also, I fucking hate Wonderwall whatever

I don't know the first names of the Gallagher brothers but I thought it interesting that at times when the guitar playing one had to fill in on vocals for his snotty lead singer brother he actually did a great job in some cases, it was often hard to tell the difference really. Shame the band didn't pick up on that sooner, eh?

i totally respect your opinion because i have the same feelings towards blur... being witty and catchy is the last thing, as a fan, that i want my band to be... as for being dicks, fine, but honest dicks which is refreshing in a day of bands who you know don't respect each other joining together for the money and the record labels... music is serious shit, at least for me, and i respect passion from a band... you have to admit they love some bands just as strongly as they despise others... i am also happy oasis is not more stable, more stylish or more humble... i see their faults but their not priests... but if they were, as he himself said, noel would write some crackin hymns... live forever mate.... in the country....

What total crap.... Noel wrote the songs but Liam is Oasis, bad attitude swagger and all. Oasis are simply the quintessential English band of the last 15 years. If The Stone Roses where the Beatles then Oasis are The Small Faces.

To compare Blur to Oasis is nonsense. Blur meant nothing to anyone but middle class art students trying to be football hooligans. Oasis wrote about how it was for me growing up

The game is kicking off in around the park
It's twenty five a side and before it's dark
There's gonna be a loser
And you know the next goal wins
