And it's been 25 years of class. From Necros all the way down to Black Heart Procession, you'll be hard-pressed to find a greater number of awesome records under any label's belt. When other indies were signing anyone under the sun looking for another Nirvana or only signing experimental acts to ward off the attention of majors also looking for the "next big thing", you could count on Touch & Go to stick to their ethics and sign kick-ass bands they liked. Plain and simple.
To commemorate those 25 years of everything from hardcore punk to country, the label is throwing a huge block party with 25 bands playing over September 8, 9 and 10. To say the lineup is impressive is a harsh understatement: The Black Heart Procession, Calexico, CocoRosie, Ted Leo + Pharmacists, Pinback and Enon have all been announced. Also, let's not forget about Shellac, who have signed on to play a rare set. The party will go down in Chicago, and is being helped along by a venue called The Hideout.
But are there any reunions? I'm glad you asked. Put some toilet paper inside your undies: Scratch Acid is playing. The fucking Didjits are playing. And one of the few reunion announcements that actually blew my mind: NEGATIVE FUCKING APPROACH is now on the bill. Sure, John Brannon was playing some NA songs with his band Easy Action, but this is something else entirely. Unfamiliar? If Minor Threat had a bully with a bunch of thuggish friends for an older brother, it would be NA. If you were unsure about attending before (and I can't figure out why you would be), hopefully this clinches it for you.
Ticket info will be available soon, but in the meantime keep checking the internerd for more lineup announcements. To make things even better, all proceeds from the show will support three Chicago-area charities: Tuesday's Child, Literacy Works and the Thomas Drummond Elementary School. Sweet. Everybody wins. Thank you Touch & Go!
