Smashing Pumpkins Working on New Material

Billy Corgan. His solo career kind of fell flat on its face and he no longer seems to be dressing like a Cenobite. What else to do, but get the band back together? You know, stop fucking around with poems and acoustic guitars and get back to trampling balls with a wall of arena rock. According to their homepage, the Smashing Pumpkins have officially reformed and are working on a new album.

For a while now, Corgan has been kicking around the idea of writing new material for the band, but nothing was officially announced until this week. The lineup has not been confirmed, and there is no release date for the record yet, but MTV News claims that a source "close to the band" revealed that the Pumpkins are in "pre-production" mode. From what people have said about Corgan, this means that Billy is saying "can you please" instead of "do this or find a new band".

Fans are going to be stoked, as well as some ex-members. Melissa Auf der Mar is ready to reclaim her spot in the lineup.

My services are there for him whenever (Corgan) needs them," she said in February. "Assuming I'm not on tour — but even then, we can cross paths. I love the Pumpkins, and to play those songs again would be nothing but fun for me. It was a big part of my life."

The Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band and even though I am excited about this announcement, I hope to god that at least James Iha has rejoined, It would be great to be the orignal line up, but somehow I doubt it...

Well, i'm not altogether excited by the notion of hearing anything like Corgan's last album, whoever's playing it... but I never saw any of the old stuff played live, so... +1!

that was awesome! how did i not see this before?

also awesome: the pumpkins. i usually stay away from "if you don't like this band, you're a retard" kind of statements, but honestly, if you have any love for rock whatsoever you're pretty much obligated to like them. seeing them live was epic.
