$0.99 Well Spent

MONDAY FEBRUARY 20 2006 11:00 AM

Submitted by Dr_Frank. Edited By Dr_Frank.

The new Ray Davies solo album Other People's Lives comes out tomorrow, and it's a winner according to this Associated Press preview.

I just snagged the single "Thanksgiving Day" off iTunes, and man, is it ever good! Sounds like something off a sadder, wiser, more minimalist, more American Arthur. I can't wait...

Isn't it his first true solo album, really?

I'm definitely picking this up. I've been a fan of The Kinks since I was a kid.

For those of you who have Sirius Satellite, Ray Davies will be doing two nights live - 10 PM Eastern. 2/23 & 2/24 on channel 25 (or channel 6025 if you have Dish Network TV)

If you don't have either, you can get a free 3 day online trial at sirius.com

I'll vouch for Underground Garage as being worth the 12 bucks a month by itself.

Ray Davies is a true music hero. My favorite Kinks work may be a little offbeat, being that I absolutely adore Village Green Preservation Society.

Dr. Frank, I tip my hat to you for this post. If you have a chance to check out "The Minks" in SF, you should. Very awesome all-girl Kinks cover band. They're all pretty hot, too.

.

Offbeat? You mean because you love the album that is pretty much unanimously regarded as their masterwork?

No. That'd be Return to Waterloo released in 1985.

Also, Storyteller, which was his solo recording of Kinks classics.

Cool I'm gonna have to check that out. I agree Underground Garage is one of the best things on Sirius (other than Howard's channels).

Anyone have 'The Lost Kinks Album'? I believe it's post 'Village Green' and, man, it just might be better! I recommend it greatly.

"The Great Lost Kinks Album"

Yeah, it's pretty damned good. Not better than Village Green; too many mediocre songs, but it was recorded at the same time as "Village Green" and released 5 years later (1973).

I think it's out of print.

Wanna know another $.99 well spent? The 99 pennies the guy paid for X&Y which in turn won him $10,000 in iTunes music. 10 60gig iPod videos a brand new 20 inch iMac and a scholorship in his name. Wow.
