Return of the Son of the Rentals Strikes Back With A Vengeance 2: Electric Boogaloo

For the dozens of you who've been waiting since 1999's Seven More Minutes for more of til-the-day-he-dies ex-Weezer-bassist Matt Sharp's The Rentals, they're coming back:

WE ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED AND HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE UNEXPECTED AND TRUE RETURN OF THE RENTALS. THE BAND IS CURRENTLY IN LOS ANGELES WRITING, REHEARSING, AND PREPARING TO RECORD THEIR 3rd STUDIO ALBUM.

THE SPECULATION IS THAT THE NEW ALBUM IS LIKELY TO BE COMPLETED AND READY FOR RELEASE IN 2006. IN THE MEANWHILE, WHILE WE WAIT WITH GREAT ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEW MUSIC, THIS WEB-SITE WILL DEDICATE ITSELF TO SHOWING THE FIRST EVER COMPLETE RETROSPECTIVE ON THE RENTALS.


Sharp's most recent release was a completely un-Weezer / un-Rentals-like self-titled solo LP, while Weezer continues to prove that he was an essential element of whatever magic they once had.

The amazing thing about Matt Sharp is that most people's love for me (including my own) has a lot less to do with his actual ability or talent than the personality he injects into the stuff he does. I'll be the first to admit that his songwriting chops are often lacking, but I do completely love his work.

I'm quite excited about this, and I hope that at the very least it means I get to see them play live.

It's odd that this should happen now since recently my brain has been on the rentals so much. I recently played a cover of "The Love I'm Searching" for at a show I played.

Including the Blue Album and Pinkerton? NO F'NG WAY!

I like the Rentals and admit that Weezer's latest stuff has not been as good, but those first two albums love love love love love love
