Manson Defended by Catholic Priest

Religious leaders in Croatia are unhappy about the prospect of 'shock rocker' Marilyn Manson playing a concert there, and attempts are being made to ban him from entering the country by Oaza, a protestant organisation. Seven Catholic priests have even offered to pay concert organizers damages if the show is cancelled.

However, one Catholic priest is campaigning for Manson to be allowed to play:

"How could Manson turn young people into Satanists and drug-addicts in the two hours of his act," daily newspaper Vjesnik quoted priest Anton Bobas as saying.

Bobas, who leads a heavy-metal band of his own called Glasnici Nade (Messengers of Hope), says most of Manson's critics have never heard his songs or seen him perform.

The unlikely fan says, however, that despite the fact that he considers seeing Marilyn Manson play in Germany three years ago the best concert he has ever been to, he still isn't too happy about people attending -- despite rallying to give them the option

But even Bobas tempers his support. Despite the music, Manson was a rather dark persona and he would not recommend anyone -- especially young people -- to attend the concert, he said.

That sounds a little contradictory but still cool skull, not something you'd expect from a Catholic priest.

thats kind of an interesting turn around. i love manson, been a fan for a long time but it always suprises me when his name turns up in the news like this. is he really still all that shocking??? hopefully he gets to play the show for the sake of the fans over there, cuz i don't think we're gonna see too much more music from him in the future. (which i'm sure alot of the non-fans would be very pleased about)

I was brought up in a catholic household and recall being told many a time that
God gives us a choice. We can do whatever we choose, right or wrong .... (the reason why good and bad happens in the world all the time ...apparently)

So, if by their own admission we have a choice, who are the moral minority to take it away?

PS (I am what I like to refer to as a recovering catholic)
