Bauhaus Reunite, Again

MONDAY JULY 25 2005 6:00 PM

Bauhaus broke up in 1983, but reunited in 1998 for a tour -- documented on the live album Gotham. Frontman Peter Murphy's been busy with his solo stuff, still promoting last year's Unshattered, and the rest of the band have kept a relatively low profile since dissolving their post-Bauhaus group, Love and Rockets, around the same time as the last Bauhaus reunion.

Now Murphy says that Bauhaus will reform again for a tour, and a new album, as he told BBC 6 Music:

"I've actually been working on reforming the band for the last year. It's come to the point now what we are going to tour here in the winter and do a world tour and an album."

I saw them in 98, and it was good in a "Oh thank goodness, I always thought I would never ever get to see them live" kind of way, but it wasn't a great concert. Unless they come out with some really fucking good new material, I'll maintain my indifference.

I saw them in 98 as well, simply because I never thought I would see them live. The show I saw was really good -the crowd really sucked though ( i.e 'we're all too goth to clap, cheer or do much more than act like egotistical zombies') so I suppose a better audience would've helped.

Of course, I have such an eternal raging hardon for Daniel Ash that I'll probably buy the album and go see them just for that reason. That man..mmm. . love

That's true.

It probably also didn't help that I'd gotten in a huge fight with my best friend just before the show, and the last words we said to each other that night (and for three years following that night) were "Fuck Off." I probably wasn't in the greatest mindset to be enjoying the show.

Ouch. No, I guess not.
I expect that the show you saw was the same as the one I saw, where the only song most of the crowd seemed to know was "Bela Lugosi's Dead'. If they hadn't played it at all, I would've laughed and laughed. biggrin

I saw them twice in 98, once in San Francisco at the Warfield and once at UC Irvine. There was a vast difference the attitude of the crowd. Plus the Warfield is simply wonderful. The crowds at Norcal shows have been alot better in my experience, and Im a Socal native! I really liked the people more and have since moved to Berkeley. You might say that Bauhaus had a hand in it. lol.

As far as the shows went, I am sorry for the negative experiences but for me, there are few bands who put on a finer show than Bauhaus and I loved Gotham. I'm happy that they will tour again. I missed Coachella but it would take a huge amount of money to coerce me to suffer the desert and overpriceed water bottles at the same time!

i'm kinda amazed. I thought bauhaus was one of those groups that people talked about but that no one ever actually liked (except for Ziggy Stardust, and they didn't write it).

Kinda like how KMFDM and Sisters of Mercy sold about 10x as many t-shirts as they ever did albums?

i think they did tours where the band didn't actually play and just the merchandising table went around to all the major cities
