Four British MPs have recorded a cover version of The Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" as a benefit for the charity Save the Children. The group, who call themselves MP4, released the single today.
The act consists of Labours Ian Cawsey on bass and lead vocals and Kevin Brennan doing guitar and vocals, Tory Greg Knight on drums and SNPs Pete Wishart on keyboards.
Frontman Ian Cawsey said: "We are very excited at the launch of our first single and to be supporting the development of legal downloading."
If Bono can pretend to be a politician, politicians can pretend to be the Fab Four, Cawsey asserts:
At a time when many musicians have become politicians this is the backlash. Politicians masquerading as musicians; you have been warned!"
They're "with it", you see.
Peter Jamieson, chairman of the UK record companies trade association the BPI said: "This is an opportunity to buy a piece of history and raise money for charity as well. Never let it be said that MPs are out of touch. Just like the record industry itself MP4 are embracing the download revolution.
