RIAA Sues 531 More People

The RIAA continued it's legal battles against online music piracy today, slapping lawsuits on 531 people suspected of downloading copywrited music online.

These new lawsuits bring the total number of people the RIAA has sued this year to 1,000. Last year, 615 had lawsuits filed against them.

The RIAA's president had this to say:

"They [legal online music services] shouldn't have to compete with businesses based on illegal downloading. That's why we are sending a clear message that downloading or 'sharing' music from a peer-to-peer network without authorization is illegal, it can have consequences and it undermines the creative future of music itself."

But if you don't buy recorded music, how will you support the bands you like that hardly have any supporters? (And thedebate continues).

the amount of money that they're spending suing people could be put to much better causes...like finding new talent, etc.

it's such bullshit.

didn't you see the South Park where they explained Lars Ulrich would have to wait another WEEK to get his gold-plated pool-side bar because of file sharing?

*sigh*Metallica were my heros in the 80's

So when you get rich enough, it's okay for people to steal your work?

That's an interesting philosophy.

It's still really hard for me to feel very strongly either way... but I DID download a lot of songs a while ago, I don't anymore. It was kind of one of those things I knew was illegal but I did it anyway because no one was getting in trouble for it. As soon as people started getting busted, I stopped.

But I still burn cd's and movies. So until they start busting people for that, I guess I'm just another fugetive on the run. And until they start busting people for that or making it impossible to do (if they can), you people bitching about them enforcing the law should shut up and burn everything you can off your friends while you can. Because if it ever gets as bad with that as it is with downloading music, you'll ALL have to pay for your music! And so will I... but then again I'm not the one whining.

Cause the chickens is comin home to roost, Bobby Boucher! And getting music by not paying for it is the DEBIL!

I download Mp3's.
But, if I like them, I buy the albums when I can.
It IS against the law. Stealing is stealing.

until your favorite band decides you can have all the free mp3's you want from their site or whatever, youre stealing from them and you might get caught.

dont pretend its your birthright just because its easy and the cops arent breaking your door down.

andi dont think they are going after people who just grab a track here and there to see if they like something so dont worry about it unless you are offering the top 50 albums. (im totally guessing on this one. who knows?)

I agree. Like I said, I sample. If I don't enjoy it, I erase it. If I do. I'll buy it. It's kind of sad that people think it's ok. Even if CD's cost more than they should. Stealing sucks.

I don't download music anymore, mainly because of all the popup bullshit that goes with all the programs I've seen available. Plus I can just go to the locally owned CD shop and listen to all the used CDs I want free and if I like it I can buy it CHEAP!

Yes, when you have more money then you could ever spend, i think it's wrong to go before congress to get kids busted for downloading a few songs.
