Japanese Looking Forward to Nintendo DS Over Sony PSP

According to gaming magazine Famitsu the Nintendo DS is going to be more desirable than the Sony PSP when the handheld systems are released.

Handhelds have always been one of Nintendo's strongest sellers, and it looks like, at least as far as the Japanese market is concerned, that will continue.

Of the 8 questions asked, three highlighted the Nintendo DS as the favorite. The two questions asking "Does the Nintendo DS interest you?" or "Does the PSP interest you?" found 59.3% of readers responding "yes" to the PSP, and 73.3% responding "yes" to the Nintendo DS.

Which handheld system are you most looking forward to?

I sure hope so. The DS had a ton of interesting software at E3 and the PSP had um... Metal Gear I guess. It will really be interesting to see what kinds of software come out for the handhelds, I think a lot of people are worried that the PSP will just rehash what is on the PS2.

I don't put any weight in these game magazine polls though, different game magazines have different fanbases.

I agree with you there. I just posted this news because I love it when people submit video game news. smile

I am looking forward to trying out both of them, from what I've seen the PSP looks really slick. I'm a Nintendo girl at heart though, so I have a feeling I'll like the DS more.

The thing that sucks with PSP is , its battery life is 3 hours.

A sony spokesman said "Sony PSP is not meant to be played on the go" regarding the matter. WTF are we supposed to do with it than?

Well I don't think they have actually nailed down the battery life yet but I don't expect it to be all that much.

I don't know. I mean, I look to my handheld to provide a DIFFERENT type of games than my console. One of the great things about my GBA is I get to play a bunch of type of games they don't really make on consoles much anymore... specifically 2D games... Megaman Zero, Castlevania, Metroid Zero Mission, etc. Then you take the dual screens and touch screen stuff into account on the DS and it looks to be providing even more possibilities for gameplay experiences unlike the consoles.

And then you have the PSP, which is supposed to be *almost* as good as a PS2. But I have a PS2, and I play it on a 27 inch flat screen TV. The PSP CAN'T live up to that. So what is it going to give me that my PS2 doesn't?

I sold a Game and Watch for £305(ish) a couple of years ago. I said more than fuckin' wooo when someone made me an offer for it outside eBay (WARNING AND GENERAL DISCLAIMER: never trade outside eBay if something is advertised on there as you may not be lucky enough to deal with someone as honest as me)! biggrin
