The old-school gaming art show bursting with brilliant works inspired by games from the '80s and '90s returns. Starting today and running until May 12th, classic console connoisseurs can head out to sunny Los Angeles and take a nostalgic journey through a gallery populated with both eerie and charming renditions of their beloved 8-bit heroes.

* Over 200 original pieces of art from over 100 artists

* Performances by ComputeHer and 8 Bit Weapon

* Giant 5-and-a-half foot Atari 2600 controller (that works!)

* Mega Man 2600, playable on giant controller (developed exclusively for I AM 8-BIT to celebrate the Blue Bomber’s 20th Anniversary)

* Other surprises

"Hip" and "With it" attendees are advised to quickly snatch up that surprisingly affordable stencil of Duke the Daring brandishing his Glandhammer to Princess Peach. Please do be wary of new parents raised on classic games looking to decorate their newborns bedrooms with stylized relics of their past. They'll be the ones with expanding midsections wedged into designer jeans a few sizes too small.

how the heck do you control a 5.5 foot Atari 2600 controller? Have a friend jump on the button and you bum rush the control stick?

Don't you mean Dirk The Daring brandishing his glandhammer to Princess Daphne? One other thing, 8 Bit Weapon sucks ass. I'm a much bigger fan of 8-Bit Bandit.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that even 20 and 30-somethings are nostalgicizing [my invention] just like the elderly? I mean, we all hope to be still 'with it' in our sixties and seventies and ridicule those that watch reruns of variety shows, but even now we find ourselves digging up our old consoles and watching The Princess Bride.

Just a thought.

Daphne is much hotter but Dirk's tastes have changed.

BEHOLD THE MAGIC OF 8-BIT!

I'm on my way to the show in a few minutes. I've got a few pieces in the show this year!!! I had a sneek peek yesterday and was blown away with all the different ways people used the theme as well as the technical skill in the pieces.

I can't wait to see the giant controller, it wasn't there yet when I visited yesterday. I'll post pictures in the next few days.

There is an arcade on Broadway or Spring downtown that has 3 or 4 really fun old school games. It's fun to go there and screw around on the old games or if you're an adventurous soul to try you luck with the new ones. I did this but I couldn't get the hang of it before I ran out of quarters.
