Today marks the one-year anniversary of Microsoft's Xbox 360, and also begins the game console's new movie and TV download service. TV shows will be available for purchase, and movies will be available for "rental," becoming "dead" within 24 hours of first viewing. The kicker is that Microsoft is offering High Definition, and will be the first direct download service to offer HD downloads. Currently, Apple's industry-leading iTunes Store only offers 640x480p resolution downloads.
The normally uber-secretive Steve Jobs, in a unusual move recently announced Apple's plan to sell a device called "iTV" that would accept purchases from the iTunes Store and stream them to the TV, available in early 2007.
Will Apple's iTV's be enough to fend off this High Definition salvo from Redmond? Or has Bill Gates actually begun the successful conquest of the home entertainment living room?
