Flippin' LG Chocolate Mobile Phone

Tags: mobilephones

In the fashion conscious world of mobile phones Chocolate is in. In a move to compete against Moto's new KRZR K1m (an updated RAZR), LG is launching a Chocolate flip phone. With a sexy sleek black exterior, dual screens, blood red touch-sensitive music controls, and more features than a pocket knife (Bluetooth 2.0, 1.3 Megapixel camera, microSD, Media player) this phone should fly off shelves just as quickly as its slider styled older sister. According to Engadget, LG should be launching the phone in about a month for Verizon Wireless subscribers.

So grab a sexy black one before they offer a pink model right before Christmas for all the Barbies and Kens.

Eh, too bad VZW's service sucks. If Cingular came out w/it, I might be inclined to pick it up.

I see so many ads for this thing plastered on buildings in downtown Los Angeles. Verizon Wireless sucks, and "Chocolate" is a dumb name for a phone.

I though cool, until I saw VERIZON stamped on it's side. They cripple their bluetooth enabled phones so you can't use your own phone like it was originally designed. All those features don't mean squat without, oh wait, did you say micro SD? Well that's half the battle. (I still say it's a rip off, you should be able to send forward using OBEX via Bluetooth, but guess what? Verizon sucks.) I used to have a Sony Ericsson 600i, an awesome phone. Either it never worked, or Cingular lied about their area of coverage. (I was only able to make slightly over 2 hours of calls in 1 month! eeek Fewer dropped calls, my ass. When I tried to send the phone back, Cingular promised they would suspend my service until I was able to get a new phone (which I never got because UPS "lost" it). whatever When I complained to Cingular after they sent me a bill for a month of service I never received (they lied about "suspending" my account and no risk cancellation), I was irate. Neeless to say, I got screwed 3 ways at once. I went crawling (begrudgingly) back to Verizon to the crippled bluetooth I have now (nice that they don't give you any of the hardware or software for the phones unless they're "Windows Enabled" fuckholes).

OK, I guess I'm still bitter, sorry for ranting everyone. Bottomline, I'm convinced no matter what you do with a cell phone, you're screwed (hmm, unless you've got an unlocked phone with no subscriber contract, but then the phones cost too freeking much with out a plan, so you're kind of back to square one...)

I feel your pain, I actually have the slider Chocolate phone because Verizon owns Orange County, sadly. I've been struggling to figure out a way to use my phone as a Bluetooth modem for Mac OS X. No luck so far. mad

Anyhow, you can actually send vCards with the Chocolate slider, but thats it. Although I just use my microSD card and move files to and from the phone, its not as easy as BT but its better than nothing.

Different providers are better or worse in different areas. Cities for example do real well with GSM networks like Cingulars. However, CDMA networks like Verizon's seem to work better in suburbs and "larger" areas of land.

US mobile telephony baffles me. I thought that because of their slow take up of GSM that they'd be just right for a huge wave of 3G etc, but the providers seem to be fucking it up.

I want a phone that's a good phone. I want buttons that I can type txt msgs on easily. I want a predictive text that doesn't default to word1 everytime I type word. I want it to easily connect to my PC so that I can transfer stuff between them. If it had a lump of file storage (like a USB stick / pen drive type thing) that'd be a neat bonus.

I don't need a camera. I don't need a media player. I don't need an FM radio. I don't need most of the crap that they think I need. It'd be nice if I could have a choice of contracts too; over here there's a gajillion contracts but they all offer variations of the same thing. whatever

It's older sister? Older by about a month! Cripes! Maybe the advertising is behind the release of the phone, but I swear this thing hasn't been out for more than four or five weeks.

The Chocolate slider was launched via Verizon Stores on August 7th. Previously it was available to purchase online only the last few days of July. Ultimately, it is still older in comparison to the yet to be released Chocolate flip phone. I wasn't stating the Chocolate slider is an old phone, just older than the flip model.

I'm incensed about the fact that these phones are black and have the audacity to be named "Chocolate." Incensed!

I think I'll stick with my Sony Ericsson W810i, thank you! LG phones are shite. LG anything is shite. The only thing LG has going for it is that its products are pretty. Shame they're not very reliable or functional.
