Holy Shit, Humans Have RAM

FRIDAY APRIL 16 2004 3:00 PM

Submitted by d20. Edited By punk.

According to an article published in Nature, the human brain - previously thought to distribute working memory - actually stores it in a single dedicated area that can bottleneck brain function if it's not up to snuff.

This very short-term memory capacity is thought to be related to intelligence. In the same way that a computer with a larger working memory can crank through problems more quickly, people with a greater capacity for holding images in their heads are expected to have better reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Next time someone acts stupid, feel free to compare them to a Tandy.

God I could just imagine the pickup lines that would stem from that "Hey baby, I got huuuge RAM, wanna see?" Then they'd take them back to their place and do some math for fun

I'm surprised no one has ever said this before. Anyone who has ever done any sort of complicated problem knows that the hardest part is fitting it all in your head at once.

Technically, it's nature's cache memory, not really RAM biggrin

awww crap...that page isn't loading for me....hmm

anyway, I'd suspect it acts like cache memory as well

but I know when I'm doing physics, I can tell my brain is acting differently, and that both hemispheres are working (one side is computing and the other side is visualizing)...I can literally seeing numbers floating around in my head and visualize the function of some quadratic equations.
