Nintendo Announces New Wii Launch Titles

The latest Nintendo Power has revealed new secrets about its super-gayly named Wii including two games that weren't playable at E3: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, and this year's nominee for Title Most in Need of the Backspace Key-- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors.

Japanese magazines have suggested 20 titles during their super awesome Japanese launch, but with the information we have now, our US launch only looks like this:

System Release: Late this year... maybe Octoberish

Nintendo Games at Launch:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

3rd Party Games at Launch:
Red Steel (Ubisoft)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft)
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Square Enix)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Sega)

As of now, their obligatory Mario system-selling game, Super Mario Galaxy, won't be out until 2007, and there's been no indication of when the Wii Sports games will be available, despite them looking pretty much done at E3.

I thought one of the big deals was that they had 27 launch titles or something. Whatever, I'm buying one anyway. Zelda, Metroid and any of the old games they have for download should be more than enough to keep me busy.

I hope Zelda isn't a disappointment. I mean, it was due to be a Gamecube title. It's hard to imagine that it could seamlessly transform into a Wii title.

And I'll buy it just for the new Metroid.

I got a lot of mileage out of my GC and my DS. I'm looking forward to the Wii.

Even if it was due to be a Gamecube game, it would have to have gone through a rewrite of the code for it to work with the new controller the Wii uses.

they definitely made correct decisions with metroid and zelda. but super monkey ball? rayman? sort of like filler on your favorite bands major label debut. seen this before...

Zelda will be out for both systems on the same launch day of the Wii.

I was under the assumption that it was created as a Wii and as a Gamecube game seperatly. They just didn't release which system it was for (it turns out that it is both). The only reason why I think this is because of the fact that there is a difference it graphics between the two versions. And as you said, an entire coding would have to be done anyway in order to reprograme it to support the Wii's controler style (both the motion control controller as well is the 'classic' style Wii controller).

the first plan was just for gamecube. then it switched to both. at the press release they said it was going to be out for both so its safe to assume they have already redone the coding for the GC controller.

People still read Nintendo Power?

The biggest mistake I ever made was giving away my stash of 75 issues. I've seen lesser collections sell for $400 on eBay blackeyed
