The Awesomeness of 2007 PC Game Releases

Tags: PC, games

Despite the fact that it has mainly been a dust collector of late, I knew that building my PC box was a good idea. Today I got proof: GameSpot's PC Gaming forum has an epic list of potential heavy hitter exclusives scheduled for 2007 release.

My personal choices include:

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars -- Welcome back, my old RTS friend.

Wil Wright's SPORE -- Is anyone not excited about this ground breaking game?

Warhammer Online: While I'm loyal to the Warcraft franchise, I can't help
but be totally into playing this. And please, no Warcraft copied Warhammer lore. I've already heard enough.

Crysis: Fuck yeah! Do I even need to explain?

Stalker: I'm so completely curious.

Alan Wake: The scenery alone is worth checking out.

But that's just me. There are plenty more to choose from, and you can check out the rest of the coming year's releases here.

i just found out warhammer online will let you take the job class of goblin squig herder, which will mean absolutely nothing to non diehard warhammer fans but i love it. tongue

defenitly looking forward to spore as well, i've been eagerly following that project ever since will wright started it as just a little experiment years ago.

as for stalker, i love the concept and i love the book it's based on but after so much delay i'm slightly worried.

the engine powering Alliance looks sick.

I'm pretty psyched about next year's releases.

I really hope that STALKER doesn't finally go the way of DNF...I mean, at this point, it's still vaporware, but DNF was announced in 1996 for god's sake.

I've heard a lot of good things about Crysis, definately the game on top of my list. With it being created by the team behind Farcry... it's gonna kick some serious ass.

Warhammer will be awesome I hope. And who knows... down the road perhaps a Warhammer 40k MMO.

At ther very bottom of the list on Gamespot it briefly mentions something I'm really psyched about.

FALLOUT 3!!!!!!!!!!

The first 2 games were seminal classics of the genre and the fact that a third is on the way can only mean good things. I admit Fallout Tactics was a toughy for everyone except obsessed fans like myself but seriously... FALLOUT 3!!!!!!!!

Without Klepacki or the bulk of the Westwood team I am a little worried CnC3 will play like Generals. May I recommend Empire at War from Petroglpyh(reformed Westwood). The mods are coming along nicely.

I'm excited about Spore, to some extent, and Alan Wake looks very neat.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. could be really cool but like someone else said, it's basically vapourware right now.

Warhammer Online in its current incarnation looks like just another fantasy MMO. Whoopdedoo. The old version, the grimmer one, that looked like it could have been something special.

Crysis..*shrugs* It looks pretty. Pretty does not a game make. And yes, I know all the versions of Far Cry are teh awesome. I'm just saying...when all the hype is about graphics, I'm going to wait and see.

Tiberium Wars: meh. C&C has never been my RTS series of choice (Warcraft/Starcraft would be that.). And Generals wasn't particularly great (though pretty.). I think Act of War was truer to the original C&C spirit than Generals ever was. So...if Tiberium Wars winds up being a real, Westwood-style C&C game, I'll be all over that, but until then...

There's a lot of other stuff on the list but it's really quite speculative. A lot of it looks like someone saw a cool screenshot and figured that the game would be awesome. And, of course, no guarantee that any game on that list will actually land in 2007.

Oh, and BTW: About Fallout 3. Yes, it's in development, but it's in development by Bethesda, and they've already made it quite plain that it will not be another Fallout in the classic vein (the way the cancelled codename Van Buren would have been.). Don't get me wrong, Bethesda has plenty of experience in making excellent, immersive, immense, and open-ended RPGs. I would be surprised if their take on Fallout wasn't a great game. But it's not the sequel I was dying to see.

Fallout is the greatest game ever. ever. hopefully bethesda doesn't fuck it up. I saw crysis, C&C3, and spore at e3, they all look spectacular. it's gonna be a big year for pc, even though pc got passed over because of the console spat.

Spore looks really awesome. It's like Evo: the Search for Eden on steroids.

Also...I thought Crysis was in development for 360 (or PS3, or both) as well as PC?

I'd agree to pretty much anything if it meant a true "Fallout" sequel developed by Black Isle.

I can't wait for Spore. I find it hard to believe it could even have one bad element. It sounds SO fucking cool.

Heroes of Might and Magic V hopefully will get the series back on track. That game was fun as hell when it wasn't IV.

Oh, and it's not this year, but whenever that art deco game from the people who made System Shock 2 comes out, I'm pretty much going to ejaculate all over my keyboard. It won't be this year, though. frown

Other shit: Alan Wake looks great. Hopefully the gameplay will be as interesting as it sounds. Spore...really, how can you not be excited about that? You design EVERYTHING. It's the ultimate sandbox, and a great step forward for gaming, I think.
