Heliodisplay Projects Images onto Thin Air

Recent video footage released by IO2 Technology shows stunning performance of their new 'Heliodisplay' device. According to IO2 tech, the device works by using lasers to project an image onto... air surreal

Heliodisplay images are not holographic although they are free-space, employing a rear projection system in which images are captured onto a nearly invisible plane of transformed air. What the viewer sees is floating mid-air image or video. These projected images and video are two-dimensional, (i.e. planar) but appear 3D since there is no physical depth reference.

Well, if that isn’t enough you make you bleed out of your eyes in excitement, this floating display also acts as a 'touch screen' of sorts (although what you are touching is up for debate).

A hand or finger can act as a mouse for mouse/cursor control. No special glove or pointing device is required. Just as you use a mouse to move the cursor on a traditional computer monitor, you can use your finger to move the cursor around the Heliodisplay image.

If you’ll excuse me, I have to go take a cold shower.

Hold my calls.

Holy shit. Hold my calls, as well. - Ed.

Christ...my prayers have been answered. I dare not ask about price. I don't think my kids will fetch that much, even in Singapore.

This will make my planned attack run on the Death Star much simpler to show to my friends...

awesome, it's looking a lot better than the version i saw a few years ago, the image still seems to shimmer though. (or is that the same kind interference you get when you videotape a computer screen?)

Reminds me of the first time I read about (not saw... just read) HDTV on Plasma or LCD. I think the year was about 1990. I was sooo impressed and wanted one. I was thinking, oh yeah just a couple years.

Well 16 years later I got one this year and it is still not common place even though definitley more than it was.

So .. I have something new to look forward to 16 years from now. tongue

That is an obvious cantidate for a screen saver. Just having it floating around whenever you're not using the display.

Just like in "Minority Report"

The computer screens at the copshop, and the videos of his wife and kid.

Cool.
