Halo 3 Trailer Questions Answered

Bungie's Frankie O'Conner has taken time to answer fan questions about the new Halo 3 trailer. As one would expect, their curiosities are not limited by shame, and his answers are a good mix of technical info and mockery.

Q: Is there any point in posting in the now rampant "Halo 3 wishlist" threads? and if so will anything we say make any impact on the game?
A: You will be shocked to learn that Bungie does not in fact design its games based on the "specs" found in the forums.

Q: Why do the clouds do the swirly thing?
A: Fictionally: Tremendous, never-before-encountered, seething subatomic energies. Factually: Parallax mapping and other techniques.

Q: Is Cortana any different? She seems somehow different. My wife didn't recognize Cortana when she watched the announcement. I thought Cortana looked exactly the same. But my wife is smarter than me. So, I better ask.
A: Women know things John. I don't know how they do, they just do.

Despite how much time he spends slamming nerds, Frankie's conversational way of releasing Bungie news is infinitely more informative than most other game PR, which is usually a transcription of what God Himself said when he programmed it. Of course, when you're PR for the greatest game of all time, it's easier to be honest than whoever's repping That's So Raven 4: Spurting Blood Feast.

Man... I don't want to vape Cortana. In fact, if it comes down to me or her, I'm just going to let her go crazy/destroy the universe.

i never saw how halo was even a good shooter never mind the best shooter.
it was repetetive and unoriginal, it's only claim to fame was managing to bring some FPS elements to console for the first time that had long since been standard on pc FPS games.

This man takes offense to your "greatest game of all time" statement..

Sure, Master Chief is good with a gun, but can he jump high? Did he stop Bowser? Of course he didn't...

One of the reasons for Halo being one of the greatest games of all time, is simply the way M.C., and the vehicles, move. Ever since Halo, all other FPS just feel clunky and slow to me. Another, is the way the series has made gaming a social event. First through system link/LAN, and then through X-Box Live. I loved playing Mario Party/Kart with friends at home, but i never got to enjoy it with 15 others from around the world.

I see. Have you heard of this marvelous invention called a PC?

Yeah, I've never gotten the hype either. It's so bland. The only thing they really added that significantly changed gameplay was having your shields recharge after combat. Which, though not a bad idea, isn't revolutionary. Other than that, I run around and shoot people with weapons I don't like. I'm not sure how it got such a huge following, but it was kind of a dud on the PC.

The misc-en-scene is amazing

I played Doom on Dwango with people all over my region. This was more than 10 years ago.

Not to mention Quake, Unreal Tournament, Starsiege: Tribes, Counter-Strike... ALL of which predate Halo by YEARS.

I tried playing games on my PC, online, but it was a fairly annoying experience. And yes, I had a high-end machine. If you look at the accomplishments of the Halo series objectively, I think you will have to admit that it's impact has been huge.

My only question about Halo 3 is "When will it be coming out for the PC?"

The Xbox controls suck. Really, really suck. On the PC...eh. It's a polished, engaging shooter that's not really hugely original, but having the Bobs (sorry, marines) and the vehicles and such...I like, ok? My main problem is getting lost. With no automap and environments with few landmarks, and given that it's not nearly as linear in design as many shooters...

Halo is a really well-made game. Halo is a really fun game. It did wonders for the XBox, which is worthy in and of itself of praise, because I think the more competition there is in console gaming, the better -- for gamers. However, I fail to see how it was particularly innovative on any point. Online multiplayer FPS? Its predecessors were mentioned above. Telling a story in an FPS? Half-Life, a dozen others. Proving that FPS games can be great on a console? Goldeneye, anyone?

Seeing that Halo 2 is only just coming out for PC, when Windows Vista launches....you might have a long wait. However, with Microsoft making a major push to allow PC and X-Box users to play together on X-Box live.... perhaps they'll have a joint launch?
