Seven Guitar Hero 2 Tracks Revealed

Guitar Hero 2 may not be as widely anticipated as Halo 2 or Doom 3 was, but its fans are seriously hardcore, and this news will make many of them grab the nearest air guitar and wail off a celebratory riff: Seven songs from GH2 have been announced, and they'll all be playable at E3.

Drist - "Arterial Black"

The Reverend Horton Heat - "Psychobilly Freakout"

KISS - "Strutter"

Black Sabbath - "War Pigs"

The Butthole Surfers - "Who Was in My Room Last Night"

The Kinks (the Van Halen version) - "You Really Got Me"

And... RUSH - "YYZ"

DUDE! Fuckin' "War Pigs" and "Psychobilly Freakout"!

Ahem. Sorry. That wasn't very professional.

Guitar Hero 2 is slated for a Fall release, and players will be able to play lead, rhythm, and bass guitar in the game, which features 55 new songs. There are also rumors that there will be a new controller available, this time designed to look like the Gibson Flying V.

While this is all awesome news for Guitar Hero geeks like me, there is some cause for concern: with so many new songs being added, the chances increase ever so slightly that we may have to play a Creed or Linkin Park song to get 100% on the game.

I heard that during Strutter if you flick the guitar neck with your tongue when you tilt it up for "Star Power" you get super bonus extra points. .....well at least at my house you do. wink

As someone who from time to time plays a guitar with actual strings and shit and sometimes plays along with stuff on the CD player ....

... how the fuck does one actually play this game?

What are the mechanics? And what is the objective?

Someone, please explain.

Here's a video of me doing 'Infected' when I first got the game. I'm kinda sucking, but it gives you an idea on how the game works. And as bad I am sucking on this vid, I still got a 5-star rating... It's on normal difficulty. That "SPOOINK" sound you hear is when I miss a note (and there are quite a few of them)

People who have not played Guitar Hero deserve no explanation- they should simply feel as silly as they rightfully are and be subjugated into going out and playing it to see how foolish they have been for missing out on the experience.
seriously.
Just like with #1, I'll put up with a few songs I might not like that much for the overall awesomeness that the thing provides.
-We all probably figured they'd try and hock a new peripheral with the new release, and it will totally fucking work, which is just so much of a shock considering how historically unsuccesful games built off of customized peripherals have been in the past. And these guys are going to to do it twice.
I've been resisting getting a second guitar for a while, but now maybe I'll actually get a full version with the flying V when GH2 comes out so I can get the sequel and a uniquely different 2nd controller at the same time. Congrat-u-fucking relations to some seriously brilliant designers.

I do both.

There's something that's just fucking great about being able to blow the doors off the living room with Cowboys From Hell and Bark at the Moon with perfectly tweaked sound, a full band in the background, and a crowd full of digital
people throwing devil horns.

It's sort of crazy, but the game's so good that while playing Guitar Hero isn't a real substitute for playing guitar... playing guitar isn't a real substitute for playing Guitar Hero either.
