Seven Guitar Hero 2 Tracks Revealed

Guitar Hero 2 may not be as widely anticipated as Halo 2 or Doom 3 was, but its fans are seriously hardcore, and this news will make many of them grab the nearest air guitar and wail off a celebratory riff: Seven songs from GH2 have been announced, and they'll all be playable at E3.

Drist - "Arterial Black"

The Reverend Horton Heat - "Psychobilly Freakout"

KISS - "Strutter"

Black Sabbath - "War Pigs"

The Butthole Surfers - "Who Was in My Room Last Night"

The Kinks (the Van Halen version) - "You Really Got Me"

And... RUSH - "YYZ"

DUDE! Fuckin' "War Pigs" and "Psychobilly Freakout"!

Ahem. Sorry. That wasn't very professional.

Guitar Hero 2 is slated for a Fall release, and players will be able to play lead, rhythm, and bass guitar in the game, which features 55 new songs. There are also rumors that there will be a new controller available, this time designed to look like the Gibson Flying V.

While this is all awesome news for Guitar Hero geeks like me, there is some cause for concern: with so many new songs being added, the chances increase ever so slightly that we may have to play a Creed or Linkin Park song to get 100% on the game.

So, I keep hearing good things about Guitar Hero, and yet, I do not buy because of certain concerns I have. To wit: I do not have rhythm. I have not, heretofore, liked rhythm games or rhythm minigames in my non-rhythm games. And I have never desired to be a rock star or play the electric guitar.

Is this a game I would enjoy?

Actually, the game relies on just hitting the right button much more than hitting the right button at the exact timing. The quantisization level is very low (or maybe it's high?) ... in other words, the game gives you alot of leeway as far as hitting the buttons at the exact right time. (you DON'T need pin-point timing to succeed at this game.) It obviously helps to have SOME sense of rhythm, but it's not as crucial as other rhythm-based games.

It's a fun game. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes rock n roll.. whether or not they have any aspirations of becoming a rock star or playing guitar.

Ah. Hitting right buttons I can do. Hitting at the exact right time fucks me up every damn time.

Getting your hands on the master tracks is insanely expensive (varies from band to band) and could prohibit the devs from putting a number of songs on there that we actually want to play. Better to just get some damn good cover bands. Hell with some of those older tracks you can't even find the master tracks so you need to have them remastered/covered in order to break up the different streams for lead/rythm/bass.

It's true. It's science!

Well, if there's science behind it... frown

As someone who from time to time plays a guitar with actual strings and shit and sometimes plays along with stuff on the CD player ....

... how the fuck does one actually play this game?

What are the mechanics? And what is the objective?

Someone, please explain.

Also, I'd just like to say: Guitar Hero 2 really needs to come packaged with groupies. For the complete experience.

I'm pretty unimpressed with those song choices.

How fucking cool would it be to have one of those 6 to 10 minute or so long Tool or Meshuggah tracks on there? Would be crazy hard as hell to play. biggrin

I vote, nay demand, Tenacious D be put on there too. All of it.
