Namco's E3 Games

With only 9 days left to E3, Namco officially announced Tekken 6 and Ridge Racer 7 for PS3 with Ridge Racer being on target for the system launch. For those unfamiliar with these franchises, hi, video games are like TV, only you're the star!

Another Namco game is Culdcept Saga for the XBOX, a mix of Monopoly and Magic: The Gathering. It's now XBOX Live-enabled, which means the demographic buying the game will have to clear some time in their Civil War reenactment and magic trick schedules.

For the XBOX 360, they'll be showing Mobile Ops: The One Year War, a giant-robot combat game based on the Gundam license. On a related note, next gen video games have me a little worried. With all the polygons and textures flying past our eyeballs at 60 fps, how much power are we using? Judging by the forty pound brick you need to power the XBOX 360, the PS3 will probably need to be plugged directly into the sun. And even if they manage to make it work with a reasonable amount of Earth electricity, know this, pet owners: any cat chewing through that system cord will detonate beyond reason.

Good to see completely unoriginal ideas going as strongly in the video game industry as they are in film.

Me too, the only think it lacked was on-line play. Which I'm sure will be rectified with this new one! biggrin

Namco's gone downhill ever since Ms. Pacman came out.

Culdcept Saga is a 360 game, not an original Xbox game.

And funky as the first Culdcept was, it wasn't actually much fun. (It was every bit as up to random chance as a typical game of Monopoly. Which is ok in Monopoly, but when you start trying to add in strategy elements while still leaving your options completely up to the roll of the dice....well, it's lame.)

Me too.... although I'm looking forward to Silent Hill 5 and Resident Evil 5, so I guess the games firms are allowed to churn out endless sequels of stuff I like whatever

I think it's less of an issue in the videogame world. Technological advances and advances in gameplay can save an unoriginal premise. I can't think of a movie series that's gone much past 3 and still been any good. Meanwhile, we've had ten years of Command and Conquer games, we're going on 12 Final Fantasy games (which, admittedly, change up story quite a bit), five Mysts and a spinoff of related storyline. There have been how many Castlevanias, and Mario platformers, and Metroid games?

Quality nearly every one.

Fans of certain genres of videogames are not in it for originality,.. especially when it comes to racing games and fighting games,.. their are two things that gamers can't get enough of, and that is racing around in circles and punching their friends in the face. All they require is every few years, fancier punches and fancier circles to race around.. and make it all more pretty than before, and that's more than enough to keep us happy for a few years till they figure out how to make it all fancier again.

I think Midway made Ms. Pacman. They like,.. licensed the Pac Man tech from Namco or something.
