Capcom's Next Gen Games at E3

Showing next month, Capcom's two big next-gen titles will be Lost Planet and Dead Rising for the 360.

Lost Planet is best described as Ghost Recon on a frozen planet. The graphics look great, but one of the main gameplay elements is keeping your character from freezing to death by constantly grabbing thermal power-ups for his space suit. Fun! To its credit, though, a constantly dying main character isn't the MOST obnoxious game element ever. It's third, behind escort missions and little islands in the lava.

Dead Rising is a zombie game set in a mall, and its video trailer at last year's E3 was a total celebration of zombie killing. But apparently they spent so much time thinking up different ways to kill a zombie they didn't have time to make it fun. Despite everyone's hardest efforts to love it, it got destroyed in the press. Hopefully one year has been enough time to fix the game's everything.

Their press-worthy PS2 titles are Okami, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, and God Hand. And for PSP, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins and Monster Hunter Freedom. Plus, bringing the total number of Mega Man games to over 40, Capcom is showing FOUR new Mega Man games. To help put that number into perspective, there is only one game about supergroup N-Sync.

I'd love to see a zombie game that is a mixture between SimCity, Grand Theft Auto, and Resident Evil where the goal is to survive as long as you can in a city where you begin at the very beginning of a zombie outbreak. Every time you play from the beginning would be different and you can customize the city, number of beginning zombies, etc. Also, this game would would reward you by coming to your house so you can blast it in the head with a shotgun.

Well possession is like that, except you're the zombie leader controlling the hordes of zombies as you make you're way through a city.

Can't you do the same things in Stubbs?

I need Viewtiful Joe 3.

Possession is more of a strategy game with zombie creation being the focus while stubbs was a comedic adventure game with converting zombies being a side thing. It looks awfully sexy and it'll come out for the PC so I can avoid spending hundreds more dollars on game systems.

Its been a year since anything has been posted about Spore so I'm excited to hear about that. There hasn't been much info about Too Human but it sounds promising.

spore seems like one of those games where they spend tremendous amounts of energy making an very interesting and complex game system, and about 10 minutes trying to make it fun.

On the plus side, it should be a decent E3 this year because you actually can't get a badge without proof of employment provided by employers.

Well, unless you go on someone else's badge...

A constantly dying main character doesn't *necessarily* have to be annoying. If things that you would normally do keep their health up it becomes mostly a spur to spend as little time screwing around at random as possible, which isn't a bad thing. Otogi used the mechanic to great effect. There are others. On the other hand, if you have to hunt through every nook and cranny for powerups that heal you, or just keep on a-dyin' all level with enemies contributing...that's lame.

There has never been a good escort mission. NEVER.

I've never played Otogi, but I don't believe you. Who doesn't like screwing around?
