Lara Croft in the Guinness Book

WEDNESDAY APRIL 12 2006 10:00 AM

Submitted by Seanbaby. Edited By WilWheaton.

According to Guinness, the organization responsible for counting how many bees people put in their mouths, Tomb Raider's Lara Croft is now a world record holder. She's officially the "Most Successful Human Videogame Heroine."

The Tomb Raider star won the prize for "transcending the boundaries of video games and becoming a recognisable figure in mainstream society".

Other human video game heroines considered for the newly contrived award included Street Fighter's Chun Li, Donkey Kong's Pauline, Dragon's Lair's Daphne, and Resident Evil starlets Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield. A nonhuman version of the same award has been claimed by Ms. Pac-Man.

While this would be fantastic news for the fictional character, it was immediately overshadowed by Sandra Trail, a Little Rock woman who grew the "Female Moustache Most Filled With Soup."

In other World Record news, until this sentence, this post was setting the record for "Longest Mention of Tomb Raider Without Bringing Up Her Tits."

Zelda's not a heroine. She just waits to get rescued! But if Link had a vagina, he'd SO win. wink

I love Lara though.

Okay, just to settle this thread:

Samus could kick the unholy shit out of Lara Croft because she's fuckin' badass. For that same reason, Samus does not want to be in the Guinness Book of World Records when she could be out conquering other worlds. She probably kicked the shit out of whoever tried to interview her for this.

None of the characters in those Donkey Kong games are the slightest bit memorable.

Peach is all delicate and shit. She'd lay there like a dead fish. Daisy would put some effort into it, and either way, she's hotter.

Good call. Now there's a name I would have recognized. I can still remember my brother and I beating Metroid, and then watching as Samus removed 'his' helmet to reveal his lustrous hair! Oh my god! Samus is a chick! Cool!

Oooh... I forgot about ol Samy. She was the one that began the crusade. But Lara was more than eye candy. I know plenty of females that got into gaming, felt it was alright to do so, because of Ms. Croft.

Dammit, makes me want to go and buy Legends right now mad

I really don't think those other heroines even deserve mentioning really. I would not have known their names if asked, and I'm an avid gamer. I'm sure some resident evil fans will complain, but that's a pretty limited audience considering you had to have a psx (for the most part) to be able to play them.

I have no idea who some of the others were, but, um, Resident Evil has been on way more than just the PSX. Versions of 2 and 3 (containing Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine, respectively, though Jill's in 1 also) have been on: PSX, Dreamcast, N64, PC, and Gamecube. 1 has been on at least the PSX, Gamecube (in remake form), and DS, and I'm fairly sure there was a PC version also. Code Veronica was on both DC and PS2. There's also a variety of single console entries including a Gameboy Resident Evil, and I think even a Tiger .com one.

I told you Resident Evil fans would complain smile

Also, I did say "(for the most part)" because I played one of the versions for the pc and it sucked ass. Also, I don't care. So I win. wink

you don't know who Street Fighter's Chun Li is?!?!?

No, some of us have more of a life than just playing Street Fighter all day. Some of us were busy reading Spider-Man comics... jeeze, what a geek. wink

edited to say: Although Spider-Man was made into a movie and Street Fighter wasn't, so I guess I'm not a geek for reading Spider-Man comics. I win this one too

P.S. Yes, I know Street Fighter actually was made into a movie, but due to its inexplicably bad nature Wannie's concious has blocked it out. Please don't remind him of it's existance. Thank you, Wannie's Superego.

I actually don't like the series all that much, but considering you could play at least one Resident Evil game on 8 entirely separate platforms (most of which have the most famous entries), there's not even a shred of truth in your statement that you had to have a Playstation to play them.

Also, there's been two Resident Evil movies.....not that they have all that much to do with the games. ;P

Don't forget she toured with U2 as well. Lara penetrated into every form of media, was seen in many countries. She transcended gaming, which other heroines never did (I'm not giving much credit to those after school cartoons), particularly the girls from RE. My parents know who Lara Croft is! Jolie portraying her made her even bigger but Lara was a star before the movies happened.

Don't try telling me that Zelda's not a heroine in her own right. (In Smash she kicks everyone's ass except Samus, and in Ocarina, she could have beat Ganon if she hadn't taken off her fighting outfit.)

Samus is the best though. Metroid Prime was fucking great.

That is all.

I want to know how they managed to quantify success. Are we talking sales numbers here? Motion picture deals? What?

Samus Aran owns. Lara Croft sucks.
