Lara Croft in the Guinness Book

According to Guinness, the organization responsible for counting how many bees people put in their mouths, Tomb Raider's Lara Croft is now a world record holder. She's officially the "Most Successful Human Videogame Heroine."

The Tomb Raider star won the prize for "transcending the boundaries of video games and becoming a recognisable figure in mainstream society".

Other human video game heroines considered for the newly contrived award included Street Fighter's Chun Li, Donkey Kong's Pauline, Dragon's Lair's Daphne, and Resident Evil starlets Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield. A nonhuman version of the same award has been claimed by Ms. Pac-Man.

While this would be fantastic news for the fictional character, it was immediately overshadowed by Sandra Trail, a Little Rock woman who grew the "Female Moustache Most Filled With Soup."

In other World Record news, until this sentence, this post was setting the record for "Longest Mention of Tomb Raider Without Bringing Up Her Tits."

I really don't think those other heroines even deserve mentioning really. I would not have known their names if asked, and I'm an avid gamer. I'm sure some resident evil fans will complain, but that's a pretty limited audience considering you had to have a psx (for the most part) to be able to play them.

Good call. Now there's a name I would have recognized. I can still remember my brother and I beating Metroid, and then watching as Samus removed 'his' helmet to reveal his lustrous hair! Oh my god! Samus is a chick! Cool!

Congratulaitons. You've managed to be the first person in my life to make me feel like I'm actually 33 years old.

I have no idea who some of the others were, but, um, Resident Evil has been on way more than just the PSX. Versions of 2 and 3 (containing Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine, respectively, though Jill's in 1 also) have been on: PSX, Dreamcast, N64, PC, and Gamecube. 1 has been on at least the PSX, Gamecube (in remake form), and DS, and I'm fairly sure there was a PC version also. Code Veronica was on both DC and PS2. There's also a variety of single console entries including a Gameboy Resident Evil, and I think even a Tiger .com one.
