Banning Video Games Illegal in One More State

Banning violent video games has become a new hobby for attention whore prosecutors, but it looks less and less likely they'll get their wish. A federal court in Michigan has killed a proposed law that banned "ultra-violent" games. The way it was worded, it would have been illegal to sell violent games to anyone under 17 or to even play them near kids. This would have put a real dent in many children's Watch Daddy Run Over Vice City Whores With a Motorcycle time.

According to the law, a game is "ultra-violent" if it repetitively depicts extreme violence, such as "rape, dismemberment, mutilation or torture." Yikes. What video games has this lawmaker been playing? It seems like this is based more on a lunatic's imagination rather than clinical research. Dismemberment, sure, but if they were playing something with rape and torture, I don't think that was a video game.

Although it is common knowledge that the world never knew violence until video games invented it, does that make them responsible? At the risk of editorializing, yes they are, Michigan. Ban them! Apparently your big stupid state doesn't have the same problem the rest of us do like impressionable children freezing their friends with ninja rays and tearing out their spines in victory.

It makes me happy on the inside to know that somebody came up with a legal definition of "ultraviolence."

Ultraviolence to me always indicated extreme use of graphic violence in a movie to produce a point. Tarantino uses it a lot, like in kill bill, and reservoir dogs.

At elast this was turned down.

What's worse is remembering the actual release of the game.

Video games are the reason why our society is AWFUL. By the way Torture in video games isn't something new. It was in everygame in the Metal Gear Solid series soo far. Rape I've never seen, they're trying to say that GTA is rape in some way but they're obviously wrong. Theres prostitution sure, and theres consentsual sex (hot coffee) as a reward for being good to your girlfriend. I've never heard of a game with rape though.

Torture, hell yeah theres torture.

People who are incapable of seeing the difference between video games and the real world are a much bigger problem.

The world never knew violence until video games came along?

Man, I seriously hope that you were being sarcastic because violence has been around waaayyy longer than video games wink

Anywho-I'm glad someone was actually smart and killed the bill. I don't want the government telling me I can't play certain video games in front of my kids.

Actual, player-inflicted torture is relatively rare (although check the new 24 videogame for at least one example.). Mutilation and dismemberment are highlights of many games.

Custer's Revenge is, as far as I know, the only game with the PC committing rape.
