Apple to replace knackered nanos...

Good news for any early adopters of the iPod nano and who have suffered serious scratching damage from seemingly nothing at all as Apple are going to replace your damaged iPod nanos... however Apple have downplayed the situation adding;

"This is a real but minor issue that involved a vendor quality problem in a small number of units," said Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr. "This has affected less than one-10th of 1% of the total iPod Nano units that we've shipped. And it's not a design issue."

Obviosuly this is a bit of a PR bungle for Apple with web sites popping up on the internet such as Tyler Hall's nanoscratch.com where you can read countless accounts complete with pictures (taking pictures of lovely shinny things is complicated you know) from people who have bought a nano and suffered what seemingly appeared at first to be sandstorm of sorts in their pocket in which their nano was stored.

they aren't replacing scratched ipods...only the ones with cracked screens (USAToday source).

the right thing do would be to fix the problem b4 release now it looks like they don't wanna lose any business.

they must filed test the things before they release them right you would think apple has been around long enough to know better.

nano ipods should come with them snazzy sleeves much cheaper solution no?

fact of life. put something shiny in your pocket, it comes out less shiny. Deal with it.

thats why they sell those snazzy ipod cases.



that says it perfect! the whole site is pretty stupid. also, if scratched or cracked screens are a vendor deffect, then apple should replace them. and they are so good for them. most other companies would tell you how it's your fault and let you suffer. some people will do anything to get their money back, even if there is nothing wrong in the first place. working in retail makes you a little sensitive to that.
also, people ipods and other mp3 players EVERYWHERE! running, in your car, to a party, or just in your home. obviously they are going to get beat up here and there. no more no less so then your old school CD player. it's just the sleek smooth design of ipods make the scratches more noticeable. there is a minor scratch on my laptop from 1 single grain of sand (yes i did see it, it was one grain). shit happens.
get a skin for it
or start treating your ipod better. dont throw it in your pocket or leave it lying around. and if you drop it...well pick in on and move on.
sorry if this comes off as bitchy, but i think that people complaining about things that they have done accidently or something they haven't done at all, just normal wear and tear, and then blaming it on apple is stupid.
i still have tons of love for SG members.
