Ain't No Party Like a Rainbow Party

Rainbow Party is a cautionary tale about a group of teens faced with the prospect of attending a party involving oral sex. The novel spotlights each of their diverse viewpoints in the hours leading up to the party. It explores what each teen has -- and has not -- been up to sexually, and why. And ultimately, why they would consider going to a party like this in the first place.


For those of you not hip to the lingo of kids today, here's an explanation.

Gin invites a select group of sophomores to her house for a Rainbow Party, in which each girl will put on a different color lipstick and perform oral sex on every boy there. Projected result: At the end, each boy's penis will be covered with a rainbow of lipstick colors.


Do kids these days really do this? At the risk of sounding like a crazy old coot, back in my day, we didn't have so many different colors of lipstick at our rainbow parties. It was like, four colors, tops.

We have "daisy chaining" in the UK.

Nurses warn over teen group sex

Teenagers are taking part in a group sex activity known as "daisy-chaining", nurses have claimed.

School nurses at the Royal College of Nursing's conference in Harrogate said colleagues in parts of London had become aware of the practice.

Nurses warn daisy-chaining, where acts are performed with multiple partners, puts teenagers' health at risk.

I always understood daisy chaining to be a gay male-specific activity, where there is a line/circle of men being penetrated by the man behind them while simultaneously penetrating the man in front of them. Of course, that definition is from the mid-80's, when I first started getting interested in sex, so who knows if it's really true.

I think Oprah invented the term Rainbow Party on one of her shows to get parents to freak out about what their kids were doing.

Seriously, nobody had heard of it before that, I think she just made it up to stir up controversy.

Cool idea though, I'm sure kids are doing it now that she gave them the idea.

As a geek growing up, this is the kind of thing I only suspected I was missing out on... I pity the poor, common-era, teenage dorks who actually have it graphically described to them.

Despite any nostalgic jealousy I might have, I'd say that the more oral sex there is in the world, the better. (but yeah, 14 is too young).

Sadly I'd bet that the girls doing this don't get much of the favor returned.
