Trump's Twin Towers

After last week's announcement by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation to rework the original Daniel Libeskind design of the 1776 foot "Freedom Tower" due to NYPD concerns that it was to close to West Street and deemed unsafe from future terror attacks, another bolder plan has been introduced.—by none other than the one and only Donald Trump.

Trump, along with architects Kenneth Gardner and Herbert Belton's plan is essentially to rebuild the twin towers as they stood, with one small change. The new towers would be 111 floors, one floor taller that the original World Trade Center. Trump also claims that the newly rebuilt towers would be much stronger than the previous ones and would be able to withstand a similar attack to the one that occurred on September 11th.

While the overall design is shorter than the plan proposed by Mr. Libeskind it provides more usable office space.

Though it would be taller than the twin towers, the Freedom Tower would have much of its top one-third given over to airy latticework and a spire emitting light into the night. Only around 70 floors would be usable office space.

Trump described the existing design as "essentially a skeleton" at the top. "If we rebuild the World Trade Center in the form of a skeleton, the terrorists win."

However, Trump said he was leaving it up to developer Larry Silverstein, who owns the lease on the World Trade Center site, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the land, to execute the design first introduced last year by engineer Ken Gardner.

"I only have the power of persuasion," Trump said. "It's a very simple power, but sometimes it can be very strong."

Let's hope the LMDC doesn't tell the Donald, "You're fired."

I'm not sure how I feel about agreeing with Donald Trump on anything, but I can't think of a better way to honor the people who died there than to rebuild the Twin Towers pretty much as they were. Especially considering that the alternative is that Freedom Tower design. puke

I've got to say, though, I'm pretty skeptical about the idea that they would be able to withstand a 9/11-style attack. I mean, is it even possible to design a building so that it can withstand having a DC-10 fiilled with jet fuel flown into it?

I'm frankly very surprised that it took the Donald this long to get involved.

I would rather see it left alone and made into a park if not duplicated to the girder of the orig towers.

Why is everyone taking this long to realize this?

A rare occasion I agree with Donald.

I'm sorry, but how does he plan on making them strong enough to withstand another attack like that? Unless he builds the thing out of adamantium and rubber, a giant plane flying into the side will at least take out a couple floors. He may be able to make them so they don't fall in on themselves again, but don't sell the false hope of making them impervious to another attack. I hope he does build them again and uses the top 41 floors or so as a memorial, because while it would be a great way to show "them" they didn't win, the victims do deserve a proper memorial.

no i dont think so either. i saw an engineer on a documentary say that to make a building the size of WTC able to withstand that amount of force, everything would be so reinforced that there wouldnt be any usable office space.

i personally wish donald trump would shut the fuck up. how many times has he been bankrupt again?

yea, this guy knows what looks good. surreal

I just want a lot of gold leaf, marble, oil paintings of him playing golf, and his name everywhere on that building.

bad idea. walking down the street and seeing those massive sky cocks would only bring back the horrible memories.

but...

if they built those fuckers in the middle of jerusalem or damascus or baghdad and made them extremely reinforced to the point of being just giant western captialist monoliths you couldn't knock down but enough room for an elevator shaft in the middle so you could reach the top and whip it out and dangle your shit at the middle east...now that would be a sight and cocky as fuck to boot.

I think he's just doing this for publicity, and perhaps to gain money from building the towers? I don't really think he's going to do it out of a feeling of rememberance only. It's cruel to say...but there must be something in it for Trump. If it was someone else saying this...I wouldn't be so critical.

He was on CNN, I think arguing about the existing design. His main argument for re-building is because he thought the current one was ugly. No mention of victims, survivors, patriotism, etc. Not convincing enough for me.

Uhm....
if you can build a building that can withstand the impact of the catastrophe and aftershocks etc surrounding an 8.0+ on the richter....
Should building one resistant to exploding crashing jet planes be THAT much of an issue?

And yeah that new design is disgusting.
And I think itd be telling any terrorists ha ha you didn't break us. We built them back. Better.

For the record he is still rich but incredibly dumb/lucky. And lord knows how many times he's supposedly been bankrupt. Also he has a tv show. He really does NOT need more freaking stupid stunts for publicity. Oh and that lame but rather quirky and oddly cutesy credit card ad of him digging through trash. Ah if only they all had to know that feeling!
--- for real.
