Sternly Rejected

Hyundai Motors recently signed a deal with XM Satellite Radio to include XM Radio in its cars, starting with the 2006 model year. One of the reasons that Hyundai might have chosen XM over rival Sirius Satellite Radio turns out to be one of Sirius' biggest acquisitions in the past couple of years: Howard Stern.

Hyundai recently surveyed 300 to 400 customers as it was deciding whether to choose XM or Sirius Satellite Radio in as an option for its vehicles. Hyundai ultimately decided to go with XM.

The automaker will roll out a fall program that offers 90 days of free satellite radio programming with its new models, starting with the Santa Fe SUV, and the Sonata and Azera sedans, according to Edmunds.

John Krafcik, Hyundai vice president of product development and strategic planning, told Inside Line that executives were stunned by the number of "unprompted write-ins" on the survey that said customers were "not comfortable with programming from Stern."

Sirius may be finding that the other side of trying to make a name for yourself by signing Howard Stern is that you take on his baggage as well.

It's not really surprising - the sort of people that strongly object to howard stern are generally exactly the sort to raise a stink for no reason. How many stations are on Sirius? I can guarantee there's more programming on at any given time than just Howard Stern.

And how does a large enough group of the general public come to notice that Hyundai is duing market research about Sirius vs. XM radio, anyway? Somebody got pretty worked up to publicize the fact and deploy the storm troopers.

I honestly wouldn't want either Sirius or XM in my car, though. Fuck pay services, I've bought tons of cds over the years and really just want a plug for my ipod, not even a regular radio or cd player.

I find Stern's show has slipped badly in the past few years, and I don't listen anymore.

Sirius can't like this, though, given that they're giving the guy $100 million a year.

Toyota used to have XM and this month they announced plans to switch to Sirius.

Now I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure Toyota sells more cars then Hyundai.

Rip offs... right.

Not to Hijack this thread, but if they were such rip offs, how come when they both worked for the same company (92.3 and 102.7 in NY are owned by the company) Howard would constantly complain to management every time they made mention of him, ESPECIALLY after their ratings were higher than Stern's?

Howard's day is done. He was briliant, but now he's as funny as catching your dick in a zipper.
whatever

Back on topic, I love XM.

They're making Sirius an option. They're not "switching".
