This is not the theater you are looking for ...

Sometimes geeks aren't as bright as we assume them to be.

Seven weeks before its release, "Star Wars" fanatics started lining up outside Grauman's Chinese Theater for the sixth installment of the popular George Lucas movie series. The vigil began Saturday.

But there's a problem: "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" won't be showing at the Hollywood landmark when the movie is released May 19. The studio, 20th Century Fox, opted instead to open the film a mile away at the ArcLight theater.

Still, the resolute "Star Wars" die-hards aren't moving on. Beneath a makeshift awning, 11 people refused to relinquish their spots in line.

I always made fun of those people standing in line for days until I found myself next to a propane heater under a tent in the middle of the night waiting for the LOTR trilogy showing at the cinerama. thats a lot of fucking prepostitions.

...Couldn't they just order some advanced tickets through a website someplace... I mean, seats are seats. Even at a first showing....

For what it's worth, this is a tradition that dates back to every single Star Wars movie since the early 80s.

Also, they have announced that previous Star Wars movies were not gonna come to that theatre on opening day, but they ended up showing them there anyways.

The day phantom menace came out, we just drove out of the city to see it at a theater in a small town about 20 miles away. Wasn't even close to sold out.

Okay, my defense of people who camp Star Wars showings, people who play in LARPs, people who can recite detailed histories of Star Trek, people who actually pay attention to bands beyond what you hear on the radio, folks who do gardening, folks who paint, folks who play sports.

People do things they enjoy. I know a guy who goes out every weekend and fights with foam swords. Within his sport he is one of the top players, the equivalent of the most sought after QBs in the NFL. Except what he does isn't socially acceptable, so people make fun of it. Fuck em. He enjoys it. I enjoy it on the occaisions when I go with him. It's your life and you only get one shot, might as well have fun.

I camped out for Phantom Menace...one night. I did it with friends and to be honest the camping out was a lot more fun than the movie...getting shitfaced and playing Star Wars Monopoly and meeting all the other weirdos who were camping out. Hell, I'm half tempted to just go hang out with the campers and then when the theater opens I'll just stand walk away while everyone else files in...I hate watching movies in crowded theaters.

When you put it in terms of weeks, though, you're going way over the top.

*tweeet* and that's a fifteen yard penalty for gratuitous cross genre pollination of two disparagingly different Sci Fi franchises.

Ok, does the first showing at that theater show before the rest of the country, or is it just like a 12 a.m. Friday morning showing, becasue I can go to the theater down the street for the first showing about 15 minutes before it starts to a half empty theater and still see it 4 hours before those guys.`

I admit, I like the Star Wars movies. But I'm not sure if I'd be able to wait outside for 1 day, let alone 49 days...

Plus I heard that Episode III is going to be R-rated due to the fact.....(((SPOILER))))

....Aniken gets his arms and legs chopped off and apparently there is going to be sex in the movie. Maybe we will find out whether or not Darth Vader has a robotic penis to go along with the rest of his body.

So it would suck for any under 18ers in that line up.

I think it's the World Premiere - first showing anywhere. Except for the star-studded Hollywood extravaganza premiere, which you have to be invited to.

Gotcha. I was just curious because I thought the Hollywood Premiere was the only seperate one and then it just opened nation-wide. In any case, I'll see it on Tuesday morning to avoid the turbo-nerd rush.
