Day Set Aside to Celebrate How Great It Is To Be Not Gay

The University of Texas at Arlington, where every day is Straight Pride Day, hosted its first Heterosexual Kissing Contest. Sponsored by the campus’ College Republicans, the contest gave prizes to those boy-girl couples that displayed the funniest kiss, the “best kiss,” and the most romantic kiss. A bevy of other groups, such as the campus’ University Democrats, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and the Gay, Lesbian and Everybody Else Organization” countered the contest by holding their own “Celebration of Human Pride Day.”

The opposing groups offered cupcakes decorated with peace signs and rainbows; pamphlets detailing the evils of racism, sexism and homophobia; and homoerotic literature.

The group promoted the idea of equal rights and ending discrimination. Members had a petition to achieve true marriage equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans.

“We are not separating or discriminating,” said Candice Berkebile, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance president. “When we say equal, we mean equal, not just rights for our group but rights for everybody.”

Romack received the best kiss award for engaging in an interracial and interpolitical party kiss with English junior Chuck Lathan, and she received the funniest kiss award for participating in a three-way, all-girl kiss.


And really, it’s all about everybody winning awards for kissing people at random. It’s also nice to see conservatives tapping into the “free love” aesthetic.

Someday, I hope that people can throw heterosexual rallies, white people rallies, and male rallies, for no other reason except that they are happy to be themselves. No other political BS, just, "Hey, I'm straight, and I'm so happy with it, I just thought I'd share that."

I would also like to add that I think 'Gay, Lesbian, and Everbody Else' is the coolest name I have ever encountered for a GBLTect. group.

My question is...Kissing Contest? Who the fuck has a kissing contest? is this normal on college campuses these days? People just give awards for random kissing? Why can't these fuckers just sit the fuck down on the steps of the english dept building and smoke like I used to do?

And it's worse when it becomes kissing as a socio-political statement. Kiss girls because kissing men makes baby Jesus cry. And this hetero kissing business is really rather confusing. Okay, so you're only supposed to participate if you're straight. Does that mean a kiss between two guys is okay, so long as both are straight? Or is that inherently gay by default? All that shit takes too much damned effort. Get to class, you kissing fuckers. Stop hurting america.

I don't think it's ironic at all, but rather, fitting. And it shows that these folks need a better way to spend their time. Like being summarily executed.
