Jackson's 'Kong' to be Trilogy

This video diary at KongIsKing.net (warning - large file, spoilerous) not only features a svelte Peter Jackson descibing numerous and intimate production details of his remake of King Kong, it reveals that this Kong will be the first film of a three-part series.

Unlike his Lord of the Rings films, Jackson and company claim they had not planned on a trilogy until he had been approached with the offer by Universal executives last December.

(Eddie Egan, Co-President of Universal Pictures Marketing)...This is just tremendously exciting for us, Universal... we had some production money stashed away for the second Chronicle of Riddick, but we're not, uh, producing that particular picture. So, happily, we had a significant budget and we're going to make Son of Kong with it, immediatly.

The current release schedule for Kong and it's sequels:

  • King Kong - December this year

  • King Kong: Son of Kong - June 2006 (apparently a remake of the 1933 original)

  • King Kong: Into the Wolf's Lair - December of 2006.

I would have taken this seriously if theonering.net wouldn't have already pulled the wool over my eyes a couple of years ago by announcing that Return of the King was going to be pushed back 5 months on April Fool's.

Unless he's battling Godzilla, I don't want to hear about no trilogy.

No truer words have been spoken. It looks like the mighty Jackson will fall. When did everyone sell out just for money? What happened to Art?

.....what else do you sell out for BUT money?

PS, the movie industry is about money. So making a movie for money isn't really selling out, that's kinda the point of making movies.

Besides......do you not get the April Fool's joke? It's not a Kong trilogy, Jackson's long since announced his next project...and it's not Kong.
