Neighborly Act Results in $900 Fine

Two Colorado teenagers have been ordered to pay $900 in medical and court costs after a gift of cookies and paper hearts caused the recipient to experience anxiety and panic attacks.

Taylor Ostergaard, then 17, and Lindsey Jo Zellitte, 18, paid the judgment on Thursday after a small claims court ruling by La Plata County Court Judge Doug Walker, a court clerk said on Friday.

The girls baked cookies as a surprise for several of their rural Colorado neighbors on July 31 and dropped off small batches on their porches, accompanied by red or pink paper hearts and the message: "Have a great night."

The Denver Post newspaper reported on Friday that the girls had decided to stay home and bake the cookies rather than go to a dance where there might be cursing and drinking.

Forty-nine year old Wanita Renea Young, one of the neighbors who received the cookies, filed suit after being seen in the emergency room of a local hospital the next day. She claims that the gift, left on her doorstep at 10:30 p.m., had frightened her so badly that she thought she had experienced a heart attack.

The judge awarded Young her medical costs, but did not award punitive damages. He said he did not think the girls had acted maliciously but that 10:30 was fairly late at night for them to be out.

EDIT: Wait, I didn't mean "FUCKING EVIL", I meant "sweet and cute", but not in a shaggable way.

You really sure about that?

I could see them starring in a Stephen King film adaptation. surreal

I don't know, I mean they look like your every day "normal" teenage girls. And this folks, is just another demonstration of how America is going to hell in a handbasket.

Give the girl on the left a wide-eyed, yet slightly vacant, stare, then imagine the girl on the right in the same outfit but clawed by a beast with great talons causing bloody tears, then smear blood on her face and all we need is a script and a location!

Maybe the cookie monster IS real after all? eeek

I can see the sequel to "THE VILLAGE" now:

A windy mid-summer's night, the smell of fresh cookie dough in the air, mysterious red symbols appearing on people's doorsteps. Cut to a sign that reads "Stay out of the woods", with another below it that reads, "Girl Guides are EVIL". Doors slam, children run hither and thither, the porch step creaks... AAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

This is especially weird for me. I am a registered nurse, and it is my job to help people stay/get healthy. (This is a weird job for me to begin with, I'm kind of antisocial.) I do my job, even though I believe that a good portion of humanity should not survive, indeed reproduce! This is a pretty good representation of the people that embody that element of humanity for me... surreal

It just goes to show you that going to a party with cursing and drinking is ALWAYS the right choice.

But seriously this is pretty ridiculous. The day I have a nervous breakdown over a batch of cookies is the day I want someone to shoot me in the face with a nail gun. Oh and what is with Colorado and the SG news lately? Crazy state...

I always wonder about the manhood about lawyers who take these cases. I mean is money more important than their manhood and their integrity as humans? smile Same for judges. Cant they get REAL jobs?? smile smile

A lot of lawyers and judges have no manhood, being women.
