Mexican Authorities Outlaw Indoor Nekkidness

Because of a “lack of morality” in the city of Villahermosa, its city council has banned indoor nudity to prevent people from seeing nudity from outside. The law calls for a $121 fine and up to 36 hours in jail.

Opposition party councilman Rodrigo Sanchez said in an interview that the measure, part of a larger series of prohibitions, "tramples on the rights of the citizens by taking laughable measures such as contemplating penalties for citizens who walk around nude inside their houses."

"I have no idea how you detect the naked. You'd have to have a big operation to try to bring it under control," he added.

Pulido said she was confident that citizens who catch a glimpse of offenders would report them to police -- though the law also threatens jail for peeping Toms.

How would cops enforce the rule? They would have to be witnesses to the crime itself. Or would they get away with it if they looked into a mirror, like Perseus when he slew Medusa. Perhaps the city council is trying to make it obvious to one person who really shouldn’t be walking around their house naked.

But as Sam the Eagle points out, “We are all naked under our clothes.”

Yup, that's a silly one. I find it hard to believe any governing body would give a damn about private-premises-indoor-nudity, unless the 'lack of morality' involves people making money out of it.

Or maybe someone decided they need to cut down on strip clubs.
