Mickey's Taliban Adventures

Scottish art student, Alan Bennie, is underfire for his depiction of Mickey Mouse flying a plane into the World Trade Center.

The work, made of stuffed fabric, shows the Disney icon flying a toy plane near the leaning towers of the World Trade Center - depicted with eyes and eyebrows. One toppled building sheds a tear while another looks toward the airborne Mickey Mouse as he approaches in a plane.

Critics have conflicted views on the piece including one reviewer stating the exhibit depicts Disney as the,"...root of all the troubles in the world."

The only problem I have with it is using a trademark, mickey mouse in this case, and I assume that's everyones main beef with it? But as far as the content or meaning of the work, I think the artist should be able to do or say whatever they want. Even if I don't like it, it's their right to.

I'd say that the most offensive thing about the piece is that it's most likely a trite, uncreative statement about American consumer culture being the true driving force behind the attacks.

I agree, lame and unimaginative.
