No More Sex

After six sensational seasons, Sex and the City says so long. Say that with a forked-tongue.

I'm so sad. Like, seriously. The last four episodes have made me cry.

Did I just admit that in public? Damnit.

I've only recently discovered this show through DVDs. I'm poor and don't have HBO.

She can't end up with the Russian...and Big has just $*%&'d up too many times...I am on the edge of my seat and devastated about it being over.. But I suppose there is always the movie.

The show was dead since Sarah Jessica Parker became executive producer. From then on Carrie ceased to be a loveable fuck-up and became instead a merely shallow girl-on-the-town. The difference is subtle, but crucial in following the arc of the series over its six-year run. Watching the first two seasons feels like watching a completely different show.

Still, I'm going to miss Miranda. I love that woman.

Dogslife, I disagree...SJP was completely responsible for the whole look of the show . The first season had her with mousy red hair and talking straight to the camera like Ferris Bueller (interesting she is married to Matthew Broderick)...they may have been crazier in the earlier episodes..but they were also younger and I think the show really progressed in a realistic way.. When she took control...As a New Yorker who has lived here forever...she really took ahold of the details and it showed.

I'm not talking about the city or the clothes. I'm talking about Carrie's vulnerability, which diminished as the show progressed. I couldn't care less how accurately New York was portrayed in the show. It was pretty window dressing, it was one of the best designed shows on TV.

I wasn't terrifically fond of the Bueller-esque bits in the first season, but in the second season the show hit a real stride. There were real flaws in the characters that went beyond just being materialistic. Carrie's mistakes were weighty. She screwed up big and learned lessons of lasting value. As soon as Parker took the reins Carrie suddenly became much more attractive on a surface level. Instead of quirk we found class; she became smooth where she once was smart. There was no longer a sense that only a devoted viewer really knew her--there was nothing left to know. Stephanie Zacharek wrote a fine essay on this subject for Salon last year.

But I reiterate, I love Miranda.

Whew, the title of this thread had me pretty worried, thank goodness it was only about a TV show and not some worldwide illegalization of coitus.

Apparently I'm the only person on the boards who couldn't stand this show. I tried to watch it, but the only thing I could think was, "No wonder you girls are all single...you all SUCK."

But however much I disliked it, I'll admit that it did make a major impact on our culture -- at least in the US; I don't have any idea if it did overseas.
