Porn Destroys Another Life

I surf adult websites all day at work. Well, to be honest just one - this one. But Bank of Ireland chief executive Michael Sodden isn't so lucky - he resigned last Saturday after some twat leaked that he visited adult sites on his work computer.

The bank's computer department was checking how employees used the Internet and found that Mr Soden had visited, though infrequently, websites of an 'adult nature'.

This guy is one of the top banker honchos in Ireland, works weekends, earns $1.6 million euros a year, and is forced to resign for looking at a little porn on the internet.

Note to high-powered executives: if you're going to surf porn at work, make sure your computer department is well paid and happy!

I surf SG at work all the time.

I also make less than $10 USD an hour.

Moral? Low paying shit-jobs have benefits as well. wink

I've always hated places that restrict sites you visit; like my University. Their proxy server will kill lessthanjake.com because it's flagged as "Entertainment."

Of course, if I end up a Network Admin, I'd probably be a proxy Nazi too. wink

It comes down to liability and production. If another worker sees you surfing porn and is uncomfortable, they can sue the company. Plus, if you let people do whatever they want on the 'net at work, they tend to forget about the 'work' part.

It's really sad that we have to work so hard to cover our asses.

He should have known better. I bet he was one of those hypocrites who get on their employee's backs for wasting valuable company time. Making them pay for their own feelings of guilt.

Porn didnt destroy another life... stupidity did. On whose part? That is subjective.

I sort of visit this site at work. I'm always afraid of someone seeing over my shoulder though.

The T&A on the front page (especially if you aren't logged in!) take a bit of window maneuvering to get around. Half the time I don't even bother, because I'm so punk rock! (i.e. get paid hourly).

I don't know if a "safe for work" version of the site even makes any sense. But all I want to do more than half the time is see the forums, news and interviews.

Meh, if this guy couldn't calm his cock down and wait until he got home to surf the net for porn, then he deserved what he got.

Just so you all know, one of Michael Sodden's first maneuvers upon originally taking his job was to have all of the lower echelon workers in the Bank of Ireland who had visited porn sites or had porn on their work computers fired...

and the rumor is, that it was one of those he canned that ratted him out.

No tears for Sodden, my dears - hypocritical bastard got what he deserved.

(Even if I nominally disapproved of the reason.)

Dumb Ass.

Can't say I feel bad for ANY man being fired when he makes like 400 times as much as I do.

Fucking pathetic.
I'm sorry. Its not like he was slacking on his job and doing nothing but chatting and viewing pron daily (in which case you'd deserve it not that that isnt fun but youre not being paid for such)
but this is absurd
*shrugs*
although if its cus he was heartless and fired some poor schmuck just for busting his ass... then karma strikes.

It sounds as though 'some twat' has destroyed yet another life, not porn.

I woulda fired his ass too. Unless he was looking into a possible investment in the porn industry... yeah, that's it, he was umm, verifying the stability of a potential loan client.

If you ask me, they were looking for an excuse to fire him, and along came this convenient technicality. I've seen it happen many times.

As far as surfing at work, I don't take any chances. I send all my web traffic through an encrypted tunnel connected to an offsite proxy server that I control, so there's no chance something like this will happen to me. Similar thing with e-mail; I never send or receive any personal related e-mail with my work address.
