At the end of May, it will have been one year since CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS opened in theaters and captured the attention of audiences across the country.
One Thanksgiving, the Friedmans, a seemingly normal family in the suburban town of Great Neck Long Island, are preparing for holiday dinner. In an instant, their front door explodes, shattered by a police battering ram, and their lives change forever. Remarkably, through it all, the eldest son, David, documents the crisis on home video.
In the hands of director Andrew Jarecki, this became one of the most fascinating documentaries of our time, leaving movie audiences debating the film long after the lights came up.
On July 8th at 9:00pm EST, HBO will present the broadcast premiere of CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS.
There have also been developments in the legal case at the center of the film. Based on evidence uncovered during the filmmakers 3 year investigation, Jesse Friedman filed an appeal in January of this year, in an effort to get his conviction re-examined. Citing his view that it will be difficult for him to get a fair hearing in Nassau County, the site of his conviction 15 years ago, Jesse Friedman recently made a second motion requesting that consideration of the first motion be moved to another county. This second motion was denied.
