As I say in the video, I don't believe the Bible is anything more than a collection of some mildly fascinating fairytales with an occasional woman getting stoned to death for giving up pussy at the wrong time. However, we have a lot of extremely wealthy religious people in this world, and I hope they take a moment to consider what their favorite book has to say about the subject. They seem to care what it says when it comes to what people do in the bedroom, so why not what people do in the boardroom?
Personally, I feel the sole purpose of christianity was to control the poor masses. When I see places like the Vatican all I see is decadence and hypocrisy. The best are those independent churches that ask for donations by selling you crappy hummingbirds and shit. You see a picture of the epic cathedral in the background with huge gardens surrounding it and I ask myself why the fuck these people need money.
Obviously, I don't believe in christianity or politics and I hardly think they're seperate. Sorry for the rant!
Maybe some people had good intentions when writing the Bible, but it is still written by people and we all know that human beings will seep their personal desires and prejudices into everything they create, whether they mean to or not--though I dare say most in the Bible are purposeful.
The quote about camels has always been my favourite... until I found out its actually used as an excuse to hoard cash. Apparently mega-churches (totally broke and humble) tell their congregations that that part of the Bible (telling the prince to give away his earthly goods) is actually promoting humbleness and that moderation is actually not necessary to get into heaven. I don't know how they manage that one. I sincerely wonder how many Christians actually can think and read the Bible at the same time, instead of letting their preacher do it for them. Nothing wrong with religion, when its used as support for being a good person. Sadly that's rarely the case in the States, where its held as a blade not a shield.
I get in to many arguments with religious people, predominantly Christian since I live in America. What I've unfortunately learned is that even if you quote the bible, many feel like they can just say "You're wrong." I got into an argument with one individual asking them to give me a single quote that opposed what I was espousing, and had 5-6 quotes from the bible backing up my side. She couldn't...but she still said with certitude that I was wrong...
This is the forum to discuss politics, laws, social issues, current events, religion and other "larger" concerns.
Whether or not you like it doesn't factor into where it belongs.
Weird. I don't see "rant blogs" in that list you quoted. Perhaps I need to see an optometrist? Even FTR merely provided links to his BS within larger researched news pieces.
