That’s Why We Love Coke

Coca-Cola brings unexpected happiness with a vending machine that, when deployed and engaged, dispenses way more than a bottle of fun-tastic flavored corn syrup and water. After slipping in a buck, or however much it costs to sate your thirst these days, unwitting users on a college campus were deluged by Coke bottles, which they proceeded to share with their peers. Others got bouquets of flowers or balloon animals from seemingly disembodied hands, and somehow a 20-foot sub even appeared out of the 18-inch deep machine.

I’m not a usually drinker of Coca-Cola, but it’s one of my favorite brands because they don’t forget the importance of quality advertising; they just want to be loved and they get it! Surprises like this are fun to watch (in the case of all us voyeurs) and even funner to receive. Seems no matter what slipped out of the dispenser, plenty of love ensued. At some point somebody even cries, “Thank you, Coke!” and gives the machine a hug. How often does a brand – or a vending machine, for that matter – get a reception like that?

The above is the just-released sequel to Coca-Cola’s original “Happiness Machine” video, which has garnered over 2.6 million views since it went live earlier this year.

How far advertising has come, and yet stayed true to its core. What a bizarre and rare art form it has become. The best part is, it can never sell out!

I bet this vending machine gets a lot of business still - people keep coming back to buy a coke just to see if there will be flowers or popcorn again. I know I would stop by once in a while.
It's behavioral conditioning, when you get a reward, you repeat the beahviour in hopes it will happen again.
And I think it's cute.

Man, this article title totally threw me off.

I expected it to be an insightful piece on society's relationship with drugs.

But at least now I have learned that corporate America just wants to give back to the community for all of the countless billions they've made off of us...because there is no way this love-in is just another gimmick to make more millions. I mean...there's even a hug there.
