Doing It With Tara: Fun With Cream

So this post is all about making dairy products out of… other dairy products. When I was younger my mom taught my brother and me how to make ice cream in a bag and butter in a jar, so I figured I’d share it with you! I found some great videos on YouTube, much better than I could make myself, so I’m just going to direct you to them (plus I’ve been out of town most of the week).

Oh and then I’ll tell you how to make chocolate whipped cream.

Here is a video on how to make butter using simply a jar, whipping cream, and a touch of salt. It turns out delicious and is just plain neat, in my opinion.

Here is a video on how to make ice cream in a bag. It turns out great, definitely doesn’t taste like it was made in a bag in five minutes. I think this would be really fun to make after a date, and a great way to get a girl back to your place, but uh… maybe that’s just me, heh.

Finally, to make chocolate whipped cream, all you need is heavy cream and cocoa powder to taste (and a tablespoon or two of powdered sugar, if you want to sweeten it). You can make whipped cream in a mixer by pouring the ingredients into the mixer and mixing until it’s nice and fluffy. You can also make it in a jar, as per the butter video above. To make it in a jar, pour the ingredients in, seal the lid, and watch until it gets nice and frothy. If it turns into butter, then you’re too late, so watch closely! The whipped cream in the picture below was made in a jar.

I went with the chocolate ice cream recipe. It was super yummy and I’d highly recommend it! If you choose to do chocolate, remember that you have to thoroughly mix it, as cocoa powder doesn’t absorb very well into the milk.

I made up some waffles and spread my butter on them, topped it with some syrup, then finished it off with the chocolate whipped cream. I pretty much popped a boner when I tasted it; seriously amazing. The chocolate whipped cream isn’t sweet on its own, but when it was mixed with the syrup it was just perfection. Mmmmmm.

Have a good week, guys :]

Me too. I'm kind of partial to butter lady though. She has a video on making "cheese crisps" which is basically just frying cheese in a pan until it turns into a heart attack.

Yummy. Also, TaraDiane, thanks for having a well-written and entertaining news blog. I fear you are in the minority. tongue

I like the butter lady, but I don't have a crush on the butter lady.

I am definitely going to use that ice cream idea to make some blueberry lavender ice cream.

I also have a crush on the Howcast girl (and TaraDiane).
