Dr. Fatkins?

The late low-carb guru Dr. Robert Atkins is getting a lot of beef lately for allegedly being overweight and riddled with heart-disease at the time of his death. Not only has the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, publicly denounced the doc as fat, but an official medical examiner's report filed clocked Atkins as, “bloated and obese” at the time of his autopsy.

Sources in Fatkins' Camp (couldn’t resist) are up in arms claiming he was bloated due to heart disease that was completely unrelated to his famous "Atkins' Diet" which sings the praises of a high fat low carb diet. Atkins former colleagues and his wife are appalled the doc is under attack when he is no longer alive to defend himself. Mmmmm…bacon tastes good...pork chops taste good.

This is a whole bunch of information and propaganda released by P.E.T.A. Now why would the militant vegetarians not want Dr. Atkins to look good? Could it be because they don't want people to eat meat. Hmmmm...

Eh...it's an AP article and the reported weight was from a medical examiner.

It still doesn't tell the whole story. Or perhaps I should say the article tells a good bit of the story, but people on both sides of the issue are determined to interpret the facts in whatever way supports their argument.

I have my doubts about the diet, but his illness and death do not seem to be related to it.

Hate the diet if you wish but since being on it both myself and my brother have
1. lost a lot of weight and kept it off
2. Been taken off High blood pressure medication
3. been taken off diebetes medication.

Maybe it isn't the diet for everyone...what is, really. but it works for me.
I hate misconceptions about " Atkins people think they can eat all the fatty meats they want and no vegetables and no breads." That is nowhere in his book. You eat till you're satisfied. The same as any diet. You can eat 3 cups of veggies a day even in the induction phase(The first few weeks) and add more as you go along.
It is a completely natural diet. You eat natural foods, meats, eggs veggies. You know...the kind men and women and their bodies were made to eat and digest? What did people eat before these processed, refined and sugary foods came along? natural foods and we weren't a nation of hippo's then either. You stay off of the refined sugars like white bread, snack foods and white rice, which are not natural foods at all.
Is it for everybody? No diet is, but I know I am never hungry until it is time to eat, I've lost weight and off medications so it is the diet of choice for me.
Maybe he did have heart disease.wow..a 70 year old man with heart disease, imagine that. Heart disease can be from things other than your diet, you know. That's like saying jogging causes heart attacks because Jim Fixx, who wrote books on running, died of a heart attack while running.
If you try hard enough, you can put a negative angle on anything. wink

I lost a lot of weight on the atkins diet. And why is it humorous to call him "Fatkins"... is it right to make fun of every over weight person?

i agree with that, plus this isn't supposed to be an editorial section, so i don't understand why she isn't being impartial.
