What's Zo Wearing? January 6, 2008

Secret Photography Agent and resident Fashion Icon Zoetica often has the staff at SGHQ asking, "What's Zo Wearing?" Her unique and eccentric style is a rallying call to those who suffer from mainstream malaise. Each week, she tells us how she's combined ordinary items to create her extraordinary look. Born out of the murky depths of her black hole closet,"What's Zo Wearing" is SG's answer to middle-of-the-road makeover shows.

Mixing pinstripes and argyle, and I will not be stopped. A deep-rooted obsession with combining gray and eggplant is to blame. My bedroom is a variety of grays and eggplant/plum shades, the only non-black tattoos I have are deep violet, I'm an avid consumer of purple vegetables and so on. The big squishy eggplanty scarf you see here came from a street vendor in Venice and cost all of $10 unlike some of the popular versions which have peaked in popularity recently. These are often overpriced and worn in ways I cannot approve. (Example)

Moving on, however, let us talk of 3/4 length coats. Rather, let me sing praises to them, because there is just no better-looking fit. A good 3/4 length jacket makes one look taller and better-proportioned through the sheer magic of its construction. This is true for boys and girls alike, and believe me when I say that few visions are more dashing than a man in a pair of slim pants and a 3/4 length coat. Onward, to the photos!

Scarf: $10 Venice
Jacket: Vintage H.Naoto Heaven
Dress: $29 Angel on Melrose
Socks, other socks & arm warmers: one of the many sock shops of Tokyo
Boots: $50 Demonia
Bag: don't ask, Black Peace Now, Tokyo

I love the rose pattern on the soles of the shoes.

Oddly, since the boots are new, I had no idea they were there until I saw that photo.

Whew. I was worried we were going to get something different there for a second.

When was the last time you looked at the column?

Oh, I check it most every time. I mean, I find it kinda boring, but you are hot and I like looking at hot people. And the photography is excellent.

Look, I'm not an expert on color or anything, but that all looks very gray to me. If anything it's a gray-green. I'm sure there's a name for that color, but it's still pretty gray. But you're right about the (black) shoes.

Previous week - brown and gold

You have (muted) gold platform shoes and brown shorts and leggings amidst your gray leggings, gray shirt and black hoodie. I mean, I'm not a fashion plate and never claimed to be, but I'm really not seeing too much of a difference.

The week before that - Feature on Andrew Yoon

Actually, I missed that one. He's a handsome fella and a good drinking partner. A+.

You're welcome to quietly browse my modeling portfolio to spare yourself the tedium.

Nerp, that's olive green, actually. While I'm tempted to agree about you not being a color expert, perhaps you are just confused by the bluish tint of the photographs?

If you're expecting me to parade around in a candy raver getup and rainbow shoes you'll be waiting a long time.

I love this feature tremendously. Zoetica is a special creature and her fashion is always inspirational and quite diverse, thought some may not notice it.

Always practical, accessible and inspired.
It's great that you play to the seasons. I'm flipping through some old favorites and it would feel awkward to see you in something that didn't harmonize with this lovely so.cal gloom.

I'm not a fan of the boots but the color pallet is great!

I also like the collar and neck line of the dress.
